The Great Wall

he summer holidays were rapidly arriving in Hong Kong as Tommy’s family decided to go on a
holiday adventure. Mum wanted to go to Japan because she wanted to try on the pretty Japanese
clothes and she really wanted to a kimono. Dad wanted to go to Beijing because he wanted to visit the
Great Wall of China. After a brief discussion, they all decided we would go to Beijing and do a lot of
shopping there.

Dad and Tommy went to book the trip. Mum was delighted because she did not have to do the housework
and she could take a rest too! After they booked the trip, they all started to pick the things that they needed to
bring for the trip. They also planned what they were going to do on the trip. Tommy was very excited, but a
strange thing happened when Tommy slept at night…
In a Special World
When Tommy fell asleep, he had a dream about the incredible Great wall in Beijing. In his dream, he
dressed up like a tour guide with a big bag and wandered along the wall. Nearby, there was an enormous black
castle near. The castle looked scary and its towers were shaped just like a big red dragon. Tommy felt very
scared because he thought that the dragon would eat him for dinner! Suddenly, the sky turned dark and the
castle teleported away. Tommy ran away quickly. He ran and ran but something stopped him! ‘What is the
matter?’ shouted Tommy. No one answered him, and Tommy did not know what he could do. Feeling afraid,
Tommy closed his eyes because he felt something starting to go near him!
Don’t be afraid, I am the King of Qin. If you want to find me, go on the Treasure Road, I will wait for you
there!’ said the King of Qin in a ghostly voice. Tommy did not believe it. He stood there and thought for a long
time thinKing what he should do. At last, he decided he had to find the King. He followed the instructions and
he arrived at the Treasure Road in a few minutes. He saw some shiny rocks nearby and went over and looked
closely at them. They were the soldier statues mounting horses. Tommy felt amazed at such a sight. Then, he
walked up the hill and he found other special items. There were some weapons and helmets here too! Tommy
found the camera in his bag and he quickly took photos. After that, he crossed the river and took a rest. ‘Clever
boy, don’t be lazy. Please come as soon as possible!’ Tommy heard the voice of the King of Qin ringing in his
ears.
Go on!
Tommy continued exploring. He saw two books in the soil, near some plants and trees. Tommy dug them
up and read them carefully. The books were about how the King of the Qin was successful in the Qin dynasty.
Tommy was very interested in history, so he put the book into his bag. He went up the hill and walked along the
road. Ten minutes later, Tommy arrived. Although he was very tired but he thought he really saw the King of
Qin! ‘Wow!’ shouted Tommy, amazed.
You have become wise beyond your years, little Tommy!’ said the King of Qin proudly.
Tommy wakes up?
Tommy heard a loud voice, ‘Wake up, we will be late, silly Tommy!’ grumbled his mother. Tommy woke
up and he realized that it was all a dream. Tommy wondered would he still have the books even though it was a
dream? Tommy didn’t think so but he was hopeful as he checked his page… and to his amazement, the two
books were still there! Tommy felt amazed and so happy. He asked his mum if she knew what happened. Mum
laughed when Tommy told her about the dream because she thought it was impossible. Tommy showed her the
two books. She laughed again. ‘Those are two books are Dad bought for you yesterday. Surprise!’ she said,
hugging him. Tommy liked the books very much and he thanked to his dad for two books.
A happy ending
Tommy arrived at Beijing in the afternoon. They visited the Great Wall but Tommy didn’t see the King of
Qin anywhere. Tommy still remembered the dream, and he smiled to himself as he saw the Great Wall for the
second time.
