He toppled over on one side, and the villagers stopped cheering. They rushed over to his side. The dragon
was not breathing.
The great red dragon of China was dead.
The villagers buried him with a great amount of sadness. In memory of the dragon, they built a wall with
bricks that looked like the dragons’ scales and named it the Great Wall of China.
High up in the clouds, the dragon saw the villagers’ tears, and was burdened by their sadness.
He sat up in the sky, thinking about what he should do.
Finally, he came up with a solution.
He went to the Dragon of Heaven, who controlled the dragons’ entries and exits on earth.
He dragon explained that he really wanted to go back to China to see the people and continue to help them.
The Dragon of Heaven thought hard about this request.
At last, The Dragon of Heaven said to the dragon, ‘Usually, I would not consider this sort of request, as it
would be unfair to the other dead dragons and the new dragon I assigned to help in China. But, I can see that the
villagers in China miss you very much. I have decided to make an exception. You may go back.’
The dragon immediately flew down back into China, and the villagers cheered as soon as they saw him. To
remember this wonderful dragon, they kept the Great Wall of China till today.
