New Tales of the Great Wall

he sky was still dark, Vanessa’s phone started to ring continuousliy. It was her best friend Rose, Rose
yelled at her and said that there was an emergency. She told her to go outside of her house immediately.
‘
You forced me to wake up at six in the morning to go to a history museum with you?’
Vanessa shouted angrily at Rose.’ It won’t take a long time! I need to do my history project! ‘ Rose
said pleading. ‘Fine… just for a while.’ Vanessa said and sighed.’ You are the best!’ Rose exclaimed
happily and tugged onto Vanessa’s arm and pulled her into the museum.
While Rose was searching for information, Vanessa noticed a weird looking bookshelf and started to
walk slowly towards it. ‘ What are you doing?’Rose asked when she saw Vanessa’s action, but there was no
reply.’ Hello? Vanessa? Can you hear me?’ Rose said again loudly this time, but still no response. Vanessa took
out a book from the shelf as if it was fragile. Then, the bookshelf started to move and a secret room appeared in
front of their eyes. Vanessa stayed silent and walked into the room followed by Rose.
When both of the girls were in the room, the door closed by itself. When Rose was about to say
something, the room started to spin around and around, when it finally stoped, Vanessa and Rose landed on the
ground with a thud. ‘What just happened?’ Vanessa asked Rose.’ You don’t remember a thing?’ Rose asked
with her eyes wide.’I only remember feeling something.’ Vanessa said, then Rose started to explain the whole
thing to her.
The two girls wandered around and found out that they were on the Great Wall of China! They were
thinking about how they could leave, just then, Vanessa felt something on the ground and found a secret trap
door to go to a hidden tunnel .The light underground was extremely dim, they could barely see what was in front
of them. Suddenly, the neckalce that Vanessa was wearing started to glow. The farther they walked into the
tunnel the brighter the necklace became. In the middle of the tunnel, Vanessa saw a crest . It is heart-shaped, just
like her necklace. She attached her necklace to the crest and a mirror started to form.There was a person in the
mirror and that person was someone Vanessa knew very well.
‘
King..kingsley? Is that really you?’ Vanessa asked as her eyes started to water. ‘Vanessa. Yes, it’s me.’
Kingsley said softly. They looked into each other’s eyes, flashbacks from before started to show in their
mind……
‘
Take this necklace.’ Kingsley said and placed a heart-shaped necklace into Vanessa’s hand. ‘It’s
beautiful.’ Vanessa gasped, gazing at the beautiful necklace. ‘I love you. You are the most important person to
me.’ Kingsley said and hugged Vanessa tightly. ‘ Kings..kingsley…I..’ Vanessa started to talk but couldn’t
finish her sentence, she just looked at Kingsley with her soft and gente eyes and smiled……The next day,
Kingsley didn’t go to school, after weeks and months, Kingsley was nowhere to be found. That reality leaved
Vanessa with millions of tears. A few years have passed. Vanessa thought that she would be able to forget about
him, but she couldn’t do it. Kingsley was the most important person to her, she could never ever forget him……
Vanessa and Kingsley snapped back from the flashbacks. ‘Why did you leave?’ Vanessa said as the
tears in her eyes began to flow down her face. ‘ Sorry… I had to come here. I had to save the Great Wall. The
Great Wall was built by many people who wanted to protect China. These years, it’s starting to break. It’s even
starting to crumble and sink into the ground. One evening, I heard a voice. It told me that I can save the Great
Wall if I stay in this magic mirror, I had power to save it,so I chose to come here.’Kingsley said with sadness in
his eyes. ‘ Why didn’t you tell me?’ Vanessa asked, starting to feel a bit angry. ‘ I didn’t want anyone to worry.’
Was all Kingsley could say.’ Guys? Am I invisible or something?’ Rose said impatiently. ‘Sorry Rose.’ Vanessa
said quietly. ‘ I am so happy that I can see you again.’ Kingsley said.’ I missed you so much! I think about you
every single second!’ Vanessa said.’ Vanessa,Rose. Both of you should leave now.Or you two might not be able
to go back.’ Kingsley said to them.’ Rose can go back.I want to stay with you.’ Vanessa said stubbornly. ‘No!
It’s dangerous! You have to go back!.’ Kingsely shouted. ‘Why don’t you leave?’ Vanessa shouted. ‘I don’t
want to waste the efforts of the people who worked so hard on the Great Wall. We are Chinese anyways.’
Kingsley said forcing a smile. Vanessa was already speechless. She was crying. She was hitting hard on the
mirror begging Kingsley to go back with her. She felt a warm grip on her hand. Kingsley was out of the mirror,
he handed the necklace back to Vanessa. Vanessa knew that she had to go back without him. He has to stay to
save the Great Wall. After Kingsley put the necklace onto Vanessa’s neck again as tears began to flow from his
eyes. He was crying as well.
Kingsley touched Vanessa’s face tenderly and slowly leaned in to kiss her. Vanessa could feel his
warm lips on her cheek. ‘ Goodbye Vanessa. Remember that you are the most important person to me.’
