in time. Each one of the robots was damaged beyond repair. Nearly all had hydraulic lines torn in to shreds,
and their air vents filled with sand until they overheated. Some even lost their electric targeting system.
With the current budget, they could not afford new robots to replace the workforce. JianQiang was
pacing around in my office until a young man not a day over twenty came over to him and offered the
suggestion, “Have you thought about gathering donations from the internet?”
Why didn’t I come up with that idea!” JianQiang exclaimed. It was the best idea anyone has mentioned to
him in ages.
Luckily they had their blog of the world famous construction from the start. Citizens all over the world
were following their progress intensely. So they decided to post the story and their concern to those that care.
Soon their story about the disaster of their robots spread like wild fire. News companies used the disaster as a
headline. An old millionaire made the first donation. Many followed after him, and within a month the team
received enough money to replace half their destroyed workforce. Just when they were so delighted with the
result, an even better thing happened. Two major robotic companies from Mexico decided to use the crisis as a
chance to prove their product’s quality and sent them a generous offer: they wanted like to sell their robots to
JianQiang at half price. Therefore, their crisis finally ended.
The construction went on for another long and tough three years. In those years they faced numerous
challenges. Some of the crew were injured by falling rocks, a land slide took out a part of the wall, and the
reactors were unstable while being built in to the new wall. As westward development progressed, the demand
for energy rose significantly. To meet these demands, they had to start testing the reactors as soon as they were
completed. While the test run was going smoothly, everyone found out it was too loud-- 50 kilometers away and
the team could still hear the noise. To reduce sound pollution they had to add a whole coat of Orichalcum, a
sound reducing element, but at the cost of turning the Great Wall in to the color of gold. This is probably why it
became the world’s best tourism place.
With the antimatter reactors working, generating more than enough power to keep the whole country
running, power plants all over the country were shut down, effectively reducing carbon dioxide output. Citizens
in Beijing and other major cities could see and feel a distinct change in the air. Smog that shrouded cities
dissipated, and the blue sky that none had seen for decades made its reappearance.
The president, the historians and the politicians held a party on the Great Wall to celebrate the resurrection
of the Great Wall. JianQiang was invited to attend. The party was wild. Music could be heard miles away, and
laughter echoed in the mountains. The party continued until sunrise.
Now that I come to think of it, that was fifty years ago. It leads modern buildings into a whole new era.
Ever since its completion it has become a legend like no other, an epic story about humans using new
technology to resurrect the old.
