Time Travel through the Great Wall

o me, time travelling was not as ridiculous as many people thought. In order to publicize our research
findings, I made a speech in an International Science Forum in Beijing.
I cleared my throat and spoke firmly in a husky voice, “Good Morning, ladies and gentlemen.
I am Professor Robinson. I am here to announce a magnificent discovery. My team and I discover that
if you move at the speed of 281 km/h in the right place, you can travel through time. After numerous
profound calculations, we finally find out the exact speed and time for time travelling. However, there
is only one place which is suitable for time travelling……” I made a dramatic pause and continued, “And it is
the Great Wall!” There was an absolute silence in the auditorium. Nobody move. Nobody speak.
In a flash, a man with a dark beard and moustache broke the intense silence. “It is nonsense!” Then the
audience went frenzy. “Fiddlesticks!” “Rubbish! “Impossible!” I shook my head slowly, sighed deeply. Then, I
shuffled away frustratingly. My heart grieved at every word they said and my heart sank. Feeling desperate, I
picked up my project file and was about to throw it in the rubbish bin.
Then, I murmured to myself, “Rome wasn’t built in a day and giving up wasn’t the best choice!” I scrutinize the
structure of the Great Wall and accidentally found the bricks of the northern part of the Great Wall were
different from that of southern part! My eyes widened with excitement. If you travel from north to south, you
could go the future. Conversely, you could go to the past! How amazing! The Great Wall was truly a time
machine! I was over the moon and vowed, “I must prove that I am right whatever it takes!”
It was 13th October 2012, the ghastly pale moon was shimmering above my head. Glittering stars were
all over the sky, as if they were waiting for some miraculous things to happen. I glanced around, enjoying the
spectacular view of the Great Wall. Countless reporters gathered together with their flashlights sparkled
frantically. I ignored them and took a deep breath and thought, “I must succeed. I must succeed!” Finally, I
peeked at my watch and pondered deeply. It was time to set off. I gritted my teeth and climbed on the jet-
powered motorbike. My hands were shaking and my whole body was filled with anxiety. What if I was wrong?
What if I could not travel through time? I gripped the handle and pulled it down firmly. The jet engine roared
brutally and two licks of flame erupted. Bit by bit, the motorbike slowly gained speed and dashed forward on
super-high speed. The motorbike was zooming faster and faster. It had already reached the lightning speed and
all the surroundings became blurred, growling strong winds whipped and squeezed my face. Freezing cold wind
whooshed past my ears, and it was so strong that I could hardly breathe. I was quivering as my body was as cold
as an ice. Deafening noise surrounded me, hurting my ears badly. I could not hold it anymore! In a blink of an
eye, a blinding light shone on me. Everything seemed to be as white as a sheet. My eyes tried to recover from
the dazzling light. Out of the blue, a man appeared in front of me! I pressed the brake with all my strength and
the motorbike screeched to a halt.
Whew! That was close!” I whispered. To my astonishment, a framer was standing in front of me.
There was a straw hat on his head. His shirt and trousers were shaggy. Dirt and wrinkles scattered all around his
face. He was trembling in fear and his mouth was wide open. “Who……who are you?” He stammered. I
scratched my head and tried to answer, “Ummm. I am a visitor from a distant place.” The farmer smiled warmly
and greeted me, “Oh! You are a visitor. Please come to my house and we will soon have lunch.” His fear
vanished and he treated me nicely. His house was made of wood and there were traces of amendment of rooftop.
There were five family members, they were all skinny and poor. Nevertheless they were delighted and cheerful.
It was such an ionic situation. The more you got, the less you smile.
Unexpectedly, somebody yelled at the door, “Open the door, right now!” Three soldiers and a tall
officer were waiting outside. The officer shouted, “Our Emperor Qin Shi Huang has ordered your family to
build the Great Wall.”
The old farmer grumbled, “My eldest son is only eight-year old and I am seventy-two. How can
we……”
The soldier interrupted and bellowed, “It is not an excuse and you have no choice! Now, come with
me!”
He pointed at me and shrieked, “You come with me, too!”
When we arrived at the Great Wall, I gaped at the architecture with wide-open eyes. What a majestic
view! I saw the workers’ face, they were exhausted and miserable! “Ouch! That hurts!” I yelled. My phone
accidentally dropped on the floor. “Go to work! Right now!” A soldier roared, his face was red with anger. Then,
he saw my phone! Out of curiosity, he picked it up and pressed a button. The screen relighted and the soldier
jumped and exclaimed, “You are a wizard! Our emperor will be pleased to see you.” We weaved through the
