New Tales of the Great Wall

am the glorious warrior!” one of those soldiers cried out in front of us.
However, none of us admitted that he was a “great” person, though he had plenty of kills to earn that
title.
He was our enemy, trying to cross our border: The Great Wall.
Oh no, he’s coming…” without finishing my last word, that soldier jumped forward, and
pierced his spear into my body! I felt a severe pain, followed by dizziness, and fell onto the……carpet!?
I opened my eyes. It turned out that I had actually fallen out of the bed, and had had a terrible dream about
one of the battles that had occurred at the Great Wall, probably the battle against Genghis Khan, or else the
soldier “who had killed me” wouldn’t have worn the traditional Mongolian clothing.
By the way, I was on a study tour to the Great Wall, in order to learn more about the history of it. Perhaps I was
too concentrated and eager about learning those materials that were given before the tour, everything that was
linked to the Wall had “invaded” my dreams!
Never mind, my classmates and I were walking along the Badaling, the most representative and
well-preserved section of the Great Wall, taking pictures and learning things about the Wall.
Badaling is just a fascinating place. Though there are extraordinary crowded, the hills, the forests, and the clear
sky combined together, forming beautiful scenery painting in front of my eyes.
We had originally planned to walk thirty kilometers before we left to find accommodation. However,
since some of the tourists only knew how to block the way of other people, our journey was reduced by half, but
we didn’t utter a word of complaint.
Not until what had happened next.
We had walked for ten kilometres. Then, when we arrived at a place where the tourists were far fewer, we
saw some terrible drawings on the wall. Some evil teenagers were colour spraying over the Wall! They looked
like they were really going to hurt people if someone tried to stop them, making every tourist take a detour
instead.
However, justice was on our side, so I and my friends decided to stop them, even if it would be a tough
job.
We went towards them, trying to discuss with them in peace. Nevertheless, they giggled, turned around,
and whispered together. I didn’t think that they had even listened to what we had just said, so I stepped forward,
trying to catch their attention. My friends had warned me “Don’t go…” Then I regretted what I had done.
One of them punched me in the face.
Similar to what had happened in my dream, I felt the pain, the dizziness, but I started to fall onto the “real”
rock-hard ground……
What are you doing here, doing nothing but lying on the ground?” a fierce voice cried out. I got up
immediately. What I saw was just the same place as before, but much colder, while the air was even fresher.
Wait a moment! Why I was wearing a suit of heavy armour? It was simply suffocating! I gazed around.
Everyone was wearing the same kind of ancient armour, and stared at my expression of confusion. Then I knew
what was happening now.
I must be in a stupid dream, again.
I attempted to slap myself, hard, to get myself out of the dream. This method had worked before, just three
days ago, when I had been forced to carry tonnes of stones to build a part of the Wall and I had known that I had
been in a dream. Though it really hurt, I got rid of that nightmare of hard labour.
However, I failed this time. Nothing changed with my action. Instead, there was laughter of the crowd
then.
I decided to run away. Unfortunately, one of those soldiers caught me, “suggesting” that I would better
stay here, or else he would command the rest to chase me, and execution would follow if I ran away. Being
threatened like this, I had to face my destiny: to stay here instead.
That soldier ordered us to prepare our weapons, and we were going to fight against those invaders again. I
sighed, and took a bow and some arrows, just like what I had done before.
Suddenly, someone beat my shoulder. I turned back and saw a familiar appearance. Wasn’t he my best
friend Lau?
Hey Lau, why are u here too?” I asked.
What? Who are you meaning? I am Liu, not Lau!” He claimed.
I
