A Tale of the Great Wall

hen I got home from school today, I told my dear Mother about a strange dream I had last night.

Yesterday, I had a really cool dream where I dreamed I was in the Qin Dynasty of the
tarchy, I met Qin Chi Wang at his palace. I was his son. He wanted to keep out a dangerous
dragon that kept attacking people. We sat down for dinner and he casually asked me if I had
ideas.
I said we should build a long wall that it could not climb over. However, I realized that the
dragon could blow fireballs at the wall. Then, I said, “It is easy. We can use anti-fire and fire-resistant materials,
like metal.”

What a great idea! You are very clever!” he exclaimed.
After that, he spoke to the people: “Everyone, we now have a plan for defending the fire dragon. We will
have to build a long, tall wall to defend it, using metals like iron instead of wood so they will not be burned
down. Do you like the sound of this idea?” The people cheered in agreement, saying, “Yes, what an amazing
idea!”

From then on, every soldier will work on the wall until it is finished.”
After five years, however, only parts of the wall were finished. Qin Chi Wang was very angry and he
scolded every worker. He said, “The wall should be a lot longer than this after five more years! If it is not
completed, everyone working on the wall will die!”
Five years passed quickly, Qin Chi Wang visited there again. It looked completely different. It was much
larger. It took about one hour to finish this walk. He said “For your work, I will give each of you ten thousand
gold pieces.” This present encouraged all of them. They were building faster and faster and it made Qin Chi
Wang very proud of his wall. However, soon the soldiers became very rich. Those who have a lot of money wo;;
always be lazy.
And one time, when Qin Chi Wang visited the wall, he saw that one of the soldiers was sleeping! He killed
the soldier to set an example. It also reminded many soldiers not to be lazy when they were working.
Years and years passed by very quickly. The great wall was building fast at all the time. The great wall was
longer and longer. Although the dragon always went and annoyed people near the wall, he couldn’t succeed
every time. The dragon said to himself ‘ I can’t give up eating people because it will make me stronger and
stronger, and I can kill all the people in this country to be the strongest dragon in the world.’ However, it was
easier said than done. Every time he wanted to eat the people, the soldiers on the great wall will shoot him and
made him roar in pain. This time, he thought again, “Should I continue my dream or just give up?” The dragon
tried several more times but he failed every time. Soon he gave up and the country was saved so Qin Shi Wang
named it ‘The Great Wall’. Although it took fifty years to build and made many people die, there were more
people who appreciated and liked the Great Wall than despised it.
