He sighed as he turned his mind away from dreamland a focused his eyes on the
her. “The Great Wall,” continued the teacher, “was the graveyard of more than a
n workers, more than 70% of the population…”
The Great Wall School was nestled in a corner of the Wall, which loomed over them as
were dominating the land. It was far away from any city, so most of the students here
were living in small villages scattered around the countryside.

After 5 hours of listening to the tedious blabbering of the teacher, Matt strolled out of the school building.
On his way back to his little village, he spotted something strange at the corner of his eye. A scraggly little grey
rat was scuttling beside the gigantic Wall, as if it were searching for something. This shocked Matt because he
had never seen a rat in the school before! Lured by curiosity, he crept behind it, following the creature’s every
move. The determined little rat scurried toward the opposite direction, unaware of the human stalking behind
him.
Soon, the animal stopped close to the school and started nibbling on a yellowish object protruding out of the
Great Wall. What was it? The teacher’s words about the Great Wall floated into his mind. It was one of the
bones of the dead workers! Aghast, he broke into a run for home.
A week after Matt’s shocking discovery, school closed. The place was swarming with rats! They were
everywhere, nibbling on leftovers from the cafeteria and slouching on the desks. The teachers didn’t ignore the
disaster. They tried everything from mousetraps to rat poison, but all of their work was in vain. The teachers that
weren’t scared out of their wits tried futilely to step on the rats, but the agile creatures were too quick for them.
They just dodged out of the way. Even Matt and some other students came to help fight the army of rats, but
they were fighting a losing battle. The rats just kept coming!
Suddenly, Matt heard loud creak coming from the Great Wall. He stopped in his tracks, turning to look at
the source of the noise. The rats had burrowed through the gigantic structure looming over them. After
thousands of years, the Great Wall of China- the wall that was the protection for the Chinese, the longest man
made structure in the world- was finally ready to crumble into pieces. As the rocks that had once been the pride
of the China crashed onto the school, the Great Wall of China broke apart. The school was buried under a pile of
rubble, never to be seen again.
