Food of the Future

n a quiet, peaceful day in a little warm village next to the famous Huang Hua Cheng Great Wall of
China, a young girl, Mei, worked on her creative writing prompt on the future Great Wall. She loved
to write whenever she could. Sometimes, her black, smooth, hair whipped around her face, her brain
was so active. Unfortunately, she didn’t always think before she acted, causing loads of trouble. Her
talents brought her to a grand and wonderful adventure, and it also taught her a valuable lesson. Her
adventure lead her to great experiences, it was the most extraordinary moment of her life…
Huang Hua Cheng Great Wall (“Huang Hua” means yellow flower in Chinese), is a part of the great wall
decorated with flower buds that bloom into beautiful yellow flowers in the summer. A part of this wall is
covered in water, where lots of Chinese restaurants line up the shore, creating a splendid attraction for tourists.
While you are eating you may see shiny waters glimmering in the sun, and beautiful yellow flowers if you wish
to visit in the summer. One specific restaurant is “Dragon Dining”, where robots help to serve. A huge machine
makes you crazy meals such as Peking duck with cranberry juice
,
wonton soup with peanut butter and jelly,
chicken Chow Mein with chocolate chips, and Crab Rangoon with rainbow sprinkles! Also, the whole wall is
decorated with beautiful yellow flowers that bloom at the start of summer, and that’s when the top waitress of
the whole village gets to make a wish….. "
O
All done for today!” exclaimed Mei as she dropped her pencil onto the floor. It was twelve o’clock, and
Mei, yawning every minute, got ready to go to sleep. She turned the bright light off and snuggled under her
covers when she realized the lights were still on! The light had turned a rather unusual color, though. Mei, being
ever so curious, tiptoed over to her desk where she had left her writing prompt just at the corner of the table. The
strange glow was coming from the piece of paper! There was a weird flashing portal right above it, so Mei
stepped into it, and she disappeared from sight.
When Mei appeared again, a little village, just like her village back home, but much more modern, greeted
her. She noticed that every thing in front of her matched what she wrote in her writing prompt. The restaurants
had robots in them, and the Great Wall of China was decorated in green vines with flower buds ready to bloom
in the summer. She peeked into one of the stores called " Dragon Dining". Of course, a huge machine was
serving people disgusting combinations of food! Mei opened the window an inch, hoping to hear some
compliments on the restaurant's food, but instead, people were complaining. " Yuck! I never knew Chinese food
tasted so bad! I've never eaten peanut butter and jelly with soup, or duck with juice!" said a woman in a purple
shirt. " Yeah! Chicken chow mein and crab with sweets? Eeeew. Let's tell everyone to close down all Chinese
restaurants all over the world!" said a man in a black hat. Mei gasped. She didn't want Chinese restaurants to
close down; people all over the world enjoyed it. So Mei decided to find the portal back to the past and change
this crazy story back to normal. The fame of Chinese food had to stay.
The next day, Mei sat on the ground. She had caused so much trouble for not just China, but for everyone
who loved Chinese food too. Also, she didn't know how to get back to her real life, which meant she couldn't
see her family again. "I have to find a way to stop this!" exclaimed Mei. "But how?" While Mei thought of a
plan, she decided she wanted to help the village's restaurant's business. So she got a job at the "Dragon Dining",
making sure every dish was normal and clean. Soon she was the top waitress in the whole village, because she
worked so hard. But she still couldn't think of a way to stop Chinese food from getting banished, and a way to
get back home.
On one particular day, Mei was working in Dragon Dining, still thinking of a plan. She decided taking a
walk along the streets would help her think of something, so she strolled along the village streets, admiring the
beautiful yellow flowers. Suddenly, a thought hit her. "Hey! Now I remember what I wrote in my writing
prompt! When the last Huang Hua, or yellow flower, bud blooms, the top waitress in this whole village will get
to make a wish! And I'm the top waitress in this whole village!" So Mei dashed to the front of the Huang Hua
Cheng Great Wall, just in time to see the last flower bloom. And as it did, Mei made her wish. "I wish I could
eat Chinese food with my family again." cried Mei. Then a blinding light shone down on the village, and the
same portal she had seen a few days ago appeared in front of Mei. After entering the portal, Mei was brought
back to the past. Soon, she was sitting in her chair in front of her writing prompt. " I better change this quick!"
she said. So she changed it into a much better story, good enough to get an A plus.
