One summer vacation, they travelled to Beijing to visit the Great Wall of China. “Everyone knows
the Great Wall is one of the most magical wonders of the world, but what is the origin of this
zing construction?’ May asked, looking at the map. As she looked up confusedly, Pete said, “I am
quite sure about it, but perhaps we can ask some tour guides over there!” He was pointing to the tour
guide walking past them.

They walked past a bunch of tourists, and walked towards the tour guide. “Excuse me, can you tell us the
origin of the Great Wall? We would like to know about it,” they chorused. The tour guide looked at the Great
Wall and started to tell them an interesting story…
Long ago in old China, the king named Tharin loved gold. Every day, he ordered the crew of miners to
mine for gold and other rare minerals to make coins and jewels. As the days went by, the mining techniques and
tools improved, his mentally sickness for gold became worse and worse. God saw this situation and became
furious, so He sent a fire dragon to teach him a lesson.
The fierce fire dragon flew to China with the speed of light and breathed fire all over the place. Burning
flames burnt down everything as people scattered around to escape from the terrible fire. After the fire stopped,
the fire dragon took over the land hid itself in the mountain of gold. People started to think of ingenious plots to
fight the enormous dragon. They chose a leader, Sabarh, to lead them through the journey as he was a great
warrior in the past. The crew of warriors travelled for miles and miles towards the kingdom. On the way, they
faced a lot of difficulties which needs to be solved fast. They even had to fight their way past the man-eating
plants!
Finally, they arrived at the castle where the dragon lived. They got ready with their swords, shields and
daggers etc. They went into the castle with confidence and fought with the dragon. They fought and fought until
their death. After a month, the men got their victory and celebrated by having a feast. Their leader, Sarbarh,
became king and married Queen Janice. Sarbarh gave the gold to the warriors who fought in the battle with the
dragon. In order to remember the victory of the battle, Sarbarh asked some construction workers to build a long
wall like a gigantic dragon for a remembrance. Later, the king of the Qin Dynasty rebuilt some of the parts to
defeat the enemies. It became an important place afterwards.
That is the end of the story of the Great Wall.’ As the tour guide finished with a cheer, Pete and May
nodded with agreement immediately. They thanked the tour guide for the explanation and went on with their
journey.
