The Great Encounter

n the middle of a scrumptious lunch, I received a phone call from an astronomer. His voice was filled with
anxiety as he said: “A huge meteoroid is expected to crash onto Juyong Pass on the Great Wall at about
half past eight tomorrow morning! It will come crashing down at a terrifying speed of 60km per second!
You must send one of your reporters there!”

I was overwhelmed with excitement when I went back to the group. I told them about the phone call.
We had to be there before anyone else! In the end, it was decided that I and my photographer, Wei Liang,
should go.
I
We caught the first plane from Hong Kong to Beijing and found our way to Juyong Pass on the Great Wall.
The Great Wall was a magnificent sight! It reminded me of a dragon stretching across the mountain peaks. It
went for miles and miles, further than my eyes could see. I wondered how labourers in the past managed to
build the Great Wall without machines. As a Chinese, I felt a sense of pride as I stood on this ancient wonder.
We camped for the night in the guard tower. The wintry night felt as cold as the Arctic. Even in our warm
sleeping bags, we felt the numbing cold. I could not imagine how soldiers in ancient China spent their nights
here thousands of years ago. After a while, the Great Wall was engulfed in darkness.
The next morning, I woke up at 8:00am and woke Wei Liang up. The air was fresh as the sun chased away
the chill of the previous night. We both got up and went to the next guard tower.
About ten minutes until the meteoroid crashes,” I announced. Wei Liang set up his tripod and fixed his
camera onto it. He turned on his camera and focused at the other guard tower, where we expected the meteoroid
to crash. Both of us waited with bated breaths as we watched.
Look up, Wei Liang! Quick, take a picture! Now plug your ears!” I yelled.
It started as a bright flash in the sky. Then, we saw a fireball streak across the sky with a huge and bright
orange tail, as it headed towards the guard tower opposite us. It landed with a deafening “CRASH”. A huge
plume of fire billowed from the meteorite and thick black smoke followed. The crash sent shock waves through
the ground for miles and miles. Wei Liang’s camera started to fall but he caught it in time.
Wow! That was the most earsplitting sound I’ve ever heard!” Wei Liang exclaimed.
Then, the meteorite started glowing brightly. As the smoke drifted away, it became clear that there was a
door on the meteorite. We gasped in awe as it opened.
Two creatures, each about a meter tall, walked out. They had two pairs of arms and one pair of legs. Their
bodies were bright green. Their navy blue eyes looked like overturned raindrops with the rounder side tilting
outwards. They had mini translating gadgets attached to their wrists. As they came towards us, Wei Liang took a
picture of them. We got ready to run in case they came too close.
They turned on their translating devices and said, “We come in peace. My name is Rozmo and this is my
sister, Rozme. We are called Rozmians and we live on planet Roz. We come in search of something called silk.
After millions of years of research, our scientists found that the only planet that has silk is Earth. We saw this
dancing structure and decided to land here.”
We can trade the most valuable stone on our planet, Razmec, for your silk,” he continued. With that, he
showed us the Razmec. When I saw the Razmec, I was spellbound by its incredible beauty. It had all the colours
of a rainbow and was more exquisite than anything I had ever seen!
That’s fine, but we don’t have any silk. If you let us take a photo with you and give us 0.5kg of Razmec,
we will bring you to the nearest silk shop.” I said.
Under two conditions. One: you have to send us a copy of the photo. Our e-mail is
rozmo&rozme@roz.com“. We made it in case we had friends like you who wanted to send us anything. Two:
You cannot post it on social websites, magazines or newspapers,” they replied.
Deal! Wei Liang is setting the timer, get ready! 3, 2, 1, cheese!” I said. Flash!
OK. 0.25kg of Razmec for Wei Liang and 0.25kg for me. Now we will bring you to our friend’s silk store.
It is just down the road. Look! You can already see the sign,” I said.
We went into the shop and the automatic sensor rang. “Hi, Mr. Chen! Our new friends want to trade
Razmec for silk,” Wei Liang told the boss, Mr. Chen.
What is Razmec?” Mr. Chen questioned.
It is the most valuable stone on planet Roz,” I explained to Mr. Chen.
How much Razmec are you willing to trade?” Mr. Chen asked the Rozmians.
“5
kg,” Rozme said.
Fine. I offer three pieces of silk, each with a height of two meters and a width of two meters,” Mr. Chen
offered.
The Rozmians agreed and each of them got what the other promised. After that, the Rozmians, Wei Liang
and I went back to the disguised meteorite spaceship and bid farewell to one another. Wei Liang promised to
