There once lived a boy named Long Chan. He lived with his small sister and two parents and four
dparents. Long was born in Beijing. His family were really poor. In fact their house was barely
ding. He lived roughly seven kilometers away from the Great Wall of China. Long was not super
rt or fast. He was an ordinary boy. Long was only ten years old. His father, Mr. Chan, was a
market seller right next to the Great Wall. Every day Long’s father traveled over the kilometers to sell spices.
He would come back and tell great myths about the Wall. Long always wondered what was on the other side.
Was there treasure? Was there life at all.

Chapter Two Did You Find It?
The thing that made Long wonder was horrible roars and screams at night…The terrible stamps and shrieks.
Now, Long new his little town like his five fingers. He searched over his life (ten years) in hope to discover the
THING”. But he could never find it! “So, did you find it?” asked Mr. Chan, Long’s father when they were at
the dinner table. “Not yet.” replied Long in a disappointed voice. “Did you succeed?” asked Long’s
grandfather. “No.” said Long scrubbing his feet as he continued to slowly walk away into the kitchen, facing
head down. Mrs. Chan was in the kitchen, washing the dinner dishes. Mrs. Chan didn’t ask if he had found it
because she could tell by his face the he hadn’t. “Sweet heart maybe it’s time to give up.” She softly suggested.
But that’s not what Long wanted to hear from his mother. He wanted to hear ‘OH! WELL.’ Not maybe it’s time
to give up! Long’s mood suddenly changed. He stamped away furiously.
Chapter Three The Deep Night
One day Long had just about enough of wondering, it was really frustrating! He made up his mind and
planned to escape to the other side of the great wall! He went to bed like usually at nine o’clock. His parents had
no idea what he was up to. He fell deep asleep. An hour later the clock hands struck ten at night. It was so loud
that Long woke up. “It’s time!” he whispered seriously. He jumped out of bed. He climbed through the bedroom
window and out in to the deep, solid night. It wasn’t too high. He landed safely and quietly. Long turned around
and peeked through the window. The yellow light shone brightly from the candle. His parents were still awake.
Long began walking away. He stepped on a branch. “Did you here that?” came a voice from the house! Long
sprinted away. The wind was whistling as he ran. Hours turned in to days and Long arrived at the great wall. It
was so busy! He could barely move. He stepped on a newspaper. He bent down to read it. “BOY MISSING!”
Long began to worry because someone might find him because of the picture on the cover.
Chapter Four That One!
He tried to blend in but how when everyone reads the morning paper? “Look! Over there! The missing
boy!” exclaimed a stranger. Long ran towards the wall as fast as his legs could take him. He looked up. Then he
began to climb up the wall! The stranger was chasing him! Higher and higher he went. People looking at him
and checking the newspaper. Screaming “That One!” Failing to follow him any further. Long finally reached the
top and wanted to relax but then looked down and saw everyone climbing! He began to run to the other side of
the Wall. He slipped and fell down.
Chapter Five The Dragon
Long was unconscious for a couple of hours and did not move. Roooooooooooooooooar! Came a rusty
voice. Long slowly opened his eyes and saw a…….DRAGON! He was breathing FIRE! Long couldn’t believe
his eyes. This was it! Him! It was him! Suddenly there was a swish in the air of white fog. An old man landed
on the ground. “You must go my dear boy.” He said calmly. “You found your destiny but…you don’t belong
here.” There was a pause of silence. “But why? And who are you?” asked Long. “You will find out later in life.”
answered the old man. “But I can’t make it over by myself.” said Long. “Very well, my dragon shall take you at
night.” continued the man. “Oh! Thank You!” exclaimed Long. “But why are you here?” asked the old man.
Because I wanted to find the loud THING.” explained Long scrubbing his foot into the ground. The old man
grinned with a giggle. After this the hours went quickly before they knew it was night. Long thanked the
wonderful and generous man one more time then climbed on the dragon the old man patted the dragon and he
took off into the sky… the soured through the clouds… And began to land. Long was home! At last! “Thank
You.” Whispered Long and hugged the dragon. Finally he ran home. “Mum! Dad! I’m back!” screamed Long
at the top of his lungs. His parents were mad, angry ,shocked and happy all at once. They hugged him and asked
lots of questions. Long finally said “Wouldn’t it be great if somebody wrote a book about this adventure!?”
