The Untold Story of Genghis Khan
Neel Govind Lalwani, Group 4: Fiction, St. Margaret's Co-educational English Secondary & Primary School
f you, in any way, find this, I am speaking of the whole truth. What you are about to read is most likely
going to shock you. I am Ögedei Khan, third son of the great and supreme emperor, Genghis Khan.
Genghis Khan, my father, was the bravest man I have known, and will ever know. If there is one
thing you should know, my father was very strong, both inside and outside. He could survive even if his
legs were torn apart. Our empire, the Mongal Empire, has conquered dozens of empires and dynasties, taking
over most of the parts of Northeast Asia. We were immediately recognized as the strongest, most feared empire
in China. Our battles were deadly, blood could be found everywhere. The sounds of the clashing of swords,
however, never frightened us. It only made us stronger. It, in a way, drove us.
My father taught us all how to be loyal to our empire. He taught us how to be strong, courageous, and brave. “If
you’re afraid, don’t do it. If you are doing it, don’t be afraid” were his sayings.
Many have thought that our leader had died after the successful conquest against the Tangut people,
taking over the whole Western Xia. They thought he died by falling off a horse, or by his fatal wounds after the
battle against the Tangut Empire, as we received telegrams from other parts of the Khan tribe saying that they’d
heard about the devastating loss of our triumphant leader, and sending their condolences. The truth is, he never
died. He even led another invasion, his last, of the Great Wall of China. What you are reading, will guide you
towards the untold Mongal Empire’s invasion of the Great Wall of China. The curse, as you may say, of our
group.
It was the year 1227, a month after executing the whole imperial family of the Tanguts, my father received
a special telegram from an unknown person. The telegram stated the Great Wall of China. It was said that there
was treasure, treasure so precious, it couldn’t be found elsewhere. Valuables of the old myth, the White Dragon.
This must have interested Temüjin, another name of my father, as his eyes widened, and decided to lead an
invasion for the treasure
Isn’t it too dangerous, brother?” Hasar, Temüjin’s reliable brother considered. “You don’t even know the
person who sent it.”
Temüjin cackled. “Our empire is strong, brother. Nothing can harm us. This treasure is worth all of our
treasure combined!
Imagine us with that treasure brother.” Temüjin said. “We will be known for decades.”
Hasar sighed. “I have a bad feeling about this. A really bad feeling.” he thought.
Temüjin brought 10 men with him. A few days have passed, and we reached the village, Fengtai, where
the Great of Wall China lay. We were welcomed by the villagers there, as they recognized us, and immediately
given a tent to stay. However, they didn’t feel contented, judging by their faces. Perhaps they weren’t happy,
given the fact that we were stealing their treasure. They couldn’t do anything to stop us, though.
We all decided to move the next morning, so we took rest.
That night, I heard awkward sounds. Unpleasant and strange sounds.
Thump. Thump.
Must be my imagination playing with my head again”, I thought, and went back to sleep.
Later that night, I was woken up by the same sound. It got louder and louder by the minute.
Thump. Thump.
I got scared and decided to wake my brother, Jochi.
Brother, brother!” I whispered. “Wake up! Can you hear it?”
Hear what?” he groaned. “It’s so late!”
Thump. Thump.
What in the world was that?” he asked. “Let’s check it out, shall we?”
I nodded. We both left our tent, and I got out my sword. The moon was shining brightly, and the evening
wind whistled by. We searched nearby the tent, but there was no sign of the source making that thumping sound.
We decided to walk back to the tent again. I walked first, and my brother followed.
Then, all of a sudden, the wind became even stronger. We ran towards the tent for safety.
Crack.
I turned back to look at my brother. My eyes widened and I screamed. A tree branch fell on my brother,
capturing him on the floor. Suddenly, the wind turned into a sword-like shape, and pierced through his armor,
his stomach. He shouted, and fell down, flat on the floor. I screamed so loud, and ran to him. I held my brother’s
