My Own Definition of the Word ‘Justice’

hen my grandfather was still alive, he taught me one thing.
Kitson, when you make a decision, you need to see with your eyes, listen with your ears and
think with your brain to find out whether your decision is right or not; however, after you have
made a decision, you just need to trust with your heart. Don’t be affected by others and keep going.
I believe that you’ll find your own direction with these words.’
At that time, I was too small to understand what he had said. When I grew up, I eventually
understood his words and they affected my life…
I live in Shanghai, which is a flourishing and important city in China. I am proud of being Chinese, as China
is now rich and strong. People are wealthy and don’t need to worry about their lives. Our teachers teach us that,
under the leadership of the Communist Party, China has become much stronger and richer than in the past.
China will keep developing positively and people can live happily and freely because of the contribution of the
Communist Party. We have to love our country, be proud of being Chinese and show our appreciation of the
Communist Party.
Kitson, what are you doing here? You have to pack now! If not, you won’t be able to go to
Beijing tomorrow,’ my mum reminded me.
Oh! I nearly forgot that I joined a study tour to Beijing, which would last for five days. I have
the Seven Wonders of the World. My grandfather once said, ‘You’re not a hero unless you’ve climbed on
the Great Wall.’ He didn’t have the chance to be a hero but it didn’t matter, I would complete his wish.
Welcome to this afternoon’s TV News. The following report is sending shockwaves through China. A
group of terrorists attacked Tianjin this morning. Many people were hurt and three people were seriously injured.
The government believes that the other three recent terrorist attacks were committed by the same group, and
have stated they won’t put up with these evil actions, which spread terror and destroy the peaceful lives of the
citizens. It is believed the terrorists will soon be arrested. All citizens are urged to take care.…’
This was the talk of the town. All the media in China had focused on terrorism since the first attack that
occurred two months ago. Today’s attack was the fourth outrage but the police still couldn’t catch the
perpetrators. There was also hearsay among cities which had been attacked. People living in those cities were
affected by the terrorists and turned against the government.
I couldn’t understand all these things. Why did people oppose the government? China was in marvelous
condition. They should not fight against the Communist Party! If they really had comments about the
government, they should talk about them rationally, and not use violence. I hoped to see the terrorists and tell
them they were wrong.
Well, this was just imagination. I didn’t think that I would have the courage to say these words to those horrible
people. I just hoped they would be arrested quickly and then we could live safely and peacefully. You know, no
one would want a sudden change if they thought that their lives were already good.
Kitson! ’ My mum roared like a lion.
I had to go immediately. If not, my life might experience a sudden change, a big change!
The next day, I started my trip with my friend Leo. I also made a new friend called Isabella, a pretty,
talkative girl with long black hair. We chatted on the coach and visited different scenic points together. She was
an innocent person who often acted like a child, which made Leo and I laugh at her. We built up a deep
relationship in a short time.
We went to famous scenic spots in the first three days, but it was the visit to the Great Wall on the fourth
day which held my interest. However, something happened on the third night… I was ordered to buy some
drinks for my companions as I lost in a card game. When I was walking alone on the street, a strong man in a
black jacket stopped me.
You are Kitson, right?’
Yes, and you are?’ I didn’t know him.
I am a cadre in the People’s Liberation Army,’ he showed me the gun and his military ID. ‘I hope you can
help us.’ He gave me a photo and I immediately recognized the face.
This girl is called Isabella. We suspect she is a terrorist and have monitored her for a long time. We believe
that the terrorists will attack again soon and she is the only clue we have to catch them.’
I won’t help you. Isabella is an innocent girl and I don’t believe that she is a terrorist,’ I said with certainty
and tried to leave, but the man caught me.
