he Great Wall of China, a long dragon passes through the cities and rivers, talking about the long
history of China, the traditional essence of China.
The Great Wall means the reunion of every family. Wong’s family lived in Hebei, the top of the
Great Wall. That was a meaningful day, the Mid-Autumn Festival. Grandma started to talk about the
story to her grandson. “Long time ago, people who lived on the border of China suffered in war. Undoubtedly,
the lives of them were miserable. Not only they had to stand the poor living quality, but also they had to endure
the separation of the household. Your grandpa was summoned by the royal to join the war. We needed to
separate for a long time. Although that was cruel to keep them separated, we were delighted to enjoy the only
day of reunion every year, the Mid-Autumn Festival.” It seems easy to touch the moon when you are 2000m
above the sea level. The grandson ate a apiece of moon cake, to taste the bitterness of separation and the
sweetness of reunion. That’s why we treasure the time of reunion. This is the traditional essence of China, a
piece of rock of the Great Wall.
The Great Wall also means the filial piety of people. Chan’s family lived in Beijing, an important check
point of the Great Wall. That was a windy day with the smell of spring. Father cut the grass across the mountain
road. Mother put all the food in front of the cemetery and the son tidied up the offering, since this was the day of
Ching Ming Festival. The death of the ancestors reminded us of the Great Wall and the flourish of China. They
sacrificed themselves, their blood and their flesh. No matter you were the soldiers or common people, you had
to leave your family, to help the development of the Great Wall, to guard the check point. That’s why we
treasure the family, to be responsible to our household. This is the traditional essence of China, a piece of rock
of the Great Wall.
The Great Wall means the noble morality. Lee’s family lived in Hunan beside the southern little-known
part of the Great Wall. The mother was teaching the daughter to make the dumplings and told her the
well-known history of the Miluo River in Hunan. “A responsible minister felt disappointed with the royal. To
prove his faithfulness, he jumped into the Miluo River. The posterity hoped that his body would not be eaten by
the fish, people rowed the dragon boats and threw the dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from damage
his body. It is illogical but that is noble morality in China.” Like the Great Wall, behind the construction of the
Great Wall, an emperor has been blamed until today. Lots of people have sacrificed for the safety of China.
Both of them carry a noble morality. This is the traditional essence of China, a piece of rock of the Great Wall.
If you try to discover the meanings behind the Great Wall, you will realize that it’s not only one of the
greatest wonders of the world, but also it ties the emotion and the thought of people. The long dragon is the
traditional essence of China, the rock of the Great Wall!
