o well Jessica, I am looking forward to your performance.” said Dr. Houston. “Thanks, I will
do my very best to pass this final test to be a real surgeon.” Jessica said willingly. It had been
seven years that Jessica left home and studied in Concord College, aiming to attain a
qualification of being a surgeon. She had always looked down on Chinese. After learning about
the disgraceful, corruptive history of ancient China, she completely distrusted the Chinese
nation and thought being a part of it was shameful. So after high school, she left Hong Kong for England,
wanting to promote Western Medical technology and put Western lifestyle into practice.

Back in the Qin dynasty, people were living in hell. Blood, sweat and tears mixture streaming across
Liu’s face. Thousands of slaves marched up the mountain under the whipping of soldiers, carrying gigantic
boulders. Welts covered slaves’ body and trembling bare feet leaping across the bloody trail. The Qin emperor
announced that male adults of every family should be recruited to help linking the defensive wall of other feudal
domains into one, namely the Great Wall, to prevent the attack of Huns in the Northern part of China. Over
three hundred thousand men were forced to complete the suicidal mission. Many of them had died but none of
them voiced out to be against the Emperor. They dared not to implicate their family members.
One day, Liu learnt that his mother was dying due to infectious disease. With despair and grief, he
begged the guards for mercy to allow him to see his mother for the last time. However, the guards pushed him to
the ground and whipped him furiously. “Dare not to say this again. Even if your whole family is in danger, we
will not let you go.” Liu lied down powerlessly, picturing his mother with a pale white cheeks and tears rolling
down her cheeks, calling his name. He hated himself for not being at her side. He hated how the guards treated
them like dogs. He hated how inhuman the Emperor was. He could not bear this anymore. A change is needed.
Then he made up his mind. Revolution. It is the only way to save the people and the future of China, and to
repent.
It was the D-day of Jessica. Later, she had to take the last test before becoming a true surgeon. At the
door of her house, she saw a pretty glass of fizzy drink with a tag, written “Energy drink, good luck.” “It must
be Carly,” smiled Jessica, taking a big gulp. But she never thought that the drink she was drinking was a magic
potion. First she felt dizzy, then fainted and disappeared in thin air.
She woke up in an unknown place, looked around and found a thatched hut. She went inside but there
was not a single sound. “Why am I in a drama set? It ensembled the ancient Chinese home that slaves were
living in.” Suddenly, a clang sound broke the silence. Jessica turned and found a trap door. She timidly lifted it
up and saw candle light flickering in the dark, she then walked down a narrow passageway. People wearing
strange ragged clothes and holding weapons suddenly rushed towards Jessica. “Who are you?” one roared in
Chinese. Jessica was scared to death, “Sorry to interrupt your filming but where the exit of this set is?” “What
on earth are you talking about? You have discovered us and we can only tie you up” said another as he tied
Jessica up. “Wait… Help!” “Let’s continue. Liu, there will be around a thousand people who will echo us by the
first of next month. So, we will need a lot more food to prepare for our battle,” said Chen. Liu replied “Okay, I
will contact colleagues from the west to bring in more food. Let’s talk about the route…” Jessica stared at them
in confusion. “This is impossible… This shouldn’t be ancient China…”
At night, Liu woke Jessica and asked, “Why are you here? Are you a spy from the Emperor?” “Just tell
me, who is the Emperor now?” “Well of course it is ShiHuangDi. There is no way that I will let you reveal our
secret that we are planning a revolution,” said Liu. Jessica’s heart fluttered because of Liu’s serious gaze. “Then
I will just stay here and help you,” stuttered Jessica. Liu doubted for a while, “why should I trust you? By the
way, why are you wearing such strange clothes?” “Believe it or not, I come from the future.”
Before the Emperor’s throne, a eunuch knelt down and said “Your majesty, Liu is going to have around
a thousand supporters to help him.” “Really? That nasty little bastard. Does he really thought that his revolution
can overthrow me?” The Emperor clenched his fist. “No one can overthrow me for sure.”
Day by day, Liu and his colleagues went out to work before dawn and went back to the huts past
midnight. Jessica treated their wounds with the first aid kit she brought with her every night. During their
discussion about the revolution, she could only help them by bringing them water and provide historical
information that may help. Jessica enjoyed laughing and joking with them, telling them about the modern world.
But the only thing that worried her was that she knew the revolution would fail in the end. She swore to protect
Liu till the end and stay with him. “Brothers, though we may fail, we have tried to put faith in justice and the
future of China. We have tried our best to change and help so we are scared of nothing. We should be proud of
