Quickly I ran through the forest. There was the Great Wall. I couldn’t see much in the darkness, but I
could see that it was tremendous and went on forever.
My father had told me that it was made out of bricks, stones and earth. Prisoners, solders and criminals
had to build the wall. But also regular people were forced to build it, which I think was really unfair. Many
people had died while they were building that dumb thing. When they died, they were just buried in the wall.
I turned left and I saw a high fence with sharp spikes on top. I could only see one entrance and standing
there was a guard. It wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought it would be. But then I remembered what my dad
had said to me on the day he left, “Remember Liya, there is always a way to solve problems. You just have to
think.” That gave me confidence.
I walked in the direction of the guard but I stayed hidden in the forest. The leaves brushed my arms.
Suddenly I had a great idea. I could throw a heavy stone at the guard!
It wasn’t going to be easy to find a heavy stone that wasn’t too big to throw. I looked around at the wall. There
were bricks everywhere. I took one brick. I was lucky that my father trained me to throw heavy objects because
the brick was really heavy. I threw it at the guard and hit him directly on the head. Before he could say anything,
he fell to the ground.
I ran quietly to the man who I thought was unconscious. I just let him lie there and walked into the
camp site. It was so huge. I had no idea how I would be able to find my father. I looked around everywhere.
Suddenly I heard someone whispering. I was afraid. I looked around me. Without making a noise,I
quickly hastened into the tent right behind me.
Too late, I noticed that there were people in there. I turned around. They were all sleeping except for
one person. That person stood up and took one step towards me. In the dark I couldn’t see his face. He came
really close to me. He placed his hand on my shoulder. Then I could see his face. I screamed, “Dad!”
We have to be quiet Liya. If the guards hear us, then they are going to be really mad,” he told me. I
hugged him and he hugged me. He suddenly looked at me and asked me, “Why are you here and how did you
get here?”
I told him, “There is no time for an explanation, Dad. We have to get out of here before the other
guards notice the guard lying on the ground.” My Dad looked at confused. I just grabbed his hand and we ran
out of the tent.
When we came to the gate I saw the guard still lying there on the ground.
On the way to home, I explained to my Dad everything that I had done.
When we arrived at home, I woke up my Mum and sister and told them what I had done. They were
shocked that I had done something so risky alone but they were happy to see my Dad. We were all worried
about what was going to happen next.
When I told them that I packed our most precious objects and some food, they were surprised at all the
thinking I had done. We grabbed everything and left our home. We were worried that the guards wouldn’t see
my Dad at the Great Wall and would come searching for him at our home. We were all in danger.
Day 3
We walked all night. When the sun rose, we looked for a place where we could hide. We found an
abandoned, dirty and old restaurant. We rested there and tried to sleep. I couldn’t really sleep because I was
really afraid that the guards would find us. When it was dark, we started walking again.
Day 4
We arrived at a wonderful village where we found food, water and a new home. The guards would
never find us here. We were safe.
