column, and continued in this pattern. In the meantime, some of the villagers intelligently rubbed some glue-like
fluid collected from the trees onto the bricks, so they wouldn’t collapse and could bear the hit of anything.
Gradually, the villagers started to get exhausted, as if they had been working for centuries – sweat charged down
their faces while their arms and thighs ached. They crouched on the floor, and gazed at the tremendous brick
wall standing in front of them. It was so enormous that it blocked the sunlight, creating a large shade on the
ground, and it stretched for even more than two kilometres! The villagers gasped, “Auh… After five years’ hard
work, we’ve finally collected so many bricks… I wonder who’s gonna win.” Another voice popped out, “Who
cares! This event is so much fun! I’ll suggest the Emperor to hold this brick-collecting contest again next year!”
All of them nodded.
Construction of the Great Wall…
Till this point, the champion and the final results of the event weren’t importantanymore. What was
remarkable, was the truth that the foundation of the Great Wall had been finally laid, and the remaining parts of
it would be completed in the upcoming brick-collecting contests and in the Ming Dynasty. In other words, those
facts” about the construction of the Great Wall, in which Qing Shi Huang treated it as a tool to defend the
northern tribes, were just misconceptions. In reality, the fact was that it was all a coincident caused by a brick-
collecting contest.
Therefore, the Great Wall actually buried the determination of those villagers, but not moans and
complains; the desire to gain victory, but not fresh blood; the joy to intercept with others, but not risks and sobs.
What a new legend of the Great Wall, the ancient dragon!
