owner's wife asked. 'The well at the end of the Great Wall' I answered. 'Oh my, oh my!' she said she said tutting.
'
Haven't you heard of the curse of the well?' she asked wonderingly. I shivered at the thought of what might
happen. 'N-no' answered Brother Wai bravely. 'The curse of the well is when a newly wedded bride and groom
came to the well to make a wish, the bride fell in and the groom was so upset, he jumped in as well. To this day,
people say they haunt the well and try to push you in if you get too close.' she said in a spooky voice. We
listened more and left in fear of the well. 'Brother Wai, do you believe her?' I asked worriedly.
'
Of course not!' he said with a fake smile. I knew he did and so did I, but we would just have to see for
ourselves. We lay down and slept fidgeting and the sleep was full of nightmares of the couple puching us down
into the well and never coming back up....
'
C'mon! Wake up sleepyhead!' said Brother Wai shaking me. 'It's so late! We've got to start now or we
won't be able to reach the well by midday today!' he added. We got up and started walking or rather jogging like
maniacs. After about 3 hours, we stopped and reached the end of the Great Wall. We asked for the directions
and finally got to the well. 'Here are the buckets Brother Wai, you fill them and I'll take them back from you.' I
planned out. He took the buckets from me one by one and we filled the four buckets full up in no time. 'Alright
Brother Lin, good job! Lets go back now.' Brother Wai said as we hauled the last bucket.
I looked down the well and asked 'Can we spare a coin to throw into the well? He handed me a coin
slowly, like he wanted it back after I was done. Not in a million years I thought. I took it quickly in case he
wanted it back before I had the chance to make my wish. I thought of my wish and threw the coin in, well I
thought so until I opened my eyes and saw it was on the edge if the rim of the well. I stretched out my hand and
was about 2 millimeters away from it then I accidentally tripped and fell head first into the well!
'
AAAAAAAGH!!!' I screamed at the top of my lungs as a toppled down, down, down into the deep
dark hole. 'Brother Lin! Are you okay? He-llllll-ooooo?' shouted down Brother Wai. I had landed at the bottom
which was about 2 metres high in water. I could barely touch the ground and I found a good way of keeping the
waterline above my face by jumping up and down on my tiptoe. I was all wet from my chin to my feet. 'Yes' I
answered back to Brother Wai shivering. I looked around and searched for loose bricks to make a hole to climb
onto and found a loose one on the far side of the well. I carefully pulled it out and there sat a piece of paper. I
put in into my mouth as I couldn't reach my pocket underwater and shouted up with a bit of trouble. 'Brother
Wai! There aren't many holes to climb up onto so can you get a piece of rope and haul me up?' I hoped a rope
was somewhere near because I think I might not be able to jump up and down on my toes for much longer. He
threw a rope down and I hung onto it as Brother Wai pulled me metre and metre up into the daylight.
I eventually found my way up and reunited with Brother Wai. He hugged me and told me to never be
so stupid for just a measly coin. We walked back to the Great Wall and walked back to home without any
problems for a change. We got home and mama and papa cuddled us close, told us to tell them every little detail
and I showed them the piece of paper I found in the well. I opened it up and the family studied it carefully. 'It
looks like a treasure map!' said Papa. 'Can we go find it tomorrow?' I asked without thinking in detail. 'We don't
even know if this is real!' said Mama with a chuckle. 'We'll have to go on another journey to find adventures!'
