Thoughts tumbled and swirled in my mind. Just before I thought I was lucky to have a picture of a Siberian Deer
Roe and because I caught a bad guy. Now, I feel that I have the worst luck. How could it have slipped from my
hands? I must not waste time, I thought. I ran down the stairs, to the ground floor of the watchtower, not aware
there was a restricted area sign on the wall.
Suddenly I faced a maze. I remembered that the Ming Dynasty architects built very sophisticated
watchtowers. Only the soldiers knew the pathway and it was designed so that the enemies would get confused
even if they successfully entered the watchtower. But I had to take my chances. I had to retrieve my camera. I
blindly ran through the maze. Suddenly from afar I saw a dim light. I ran towards it, hoping to find the exit.
Nearing to light I found that a tiny hole for archers to shoot, and just outside was my camera, emitting the light.
I stuck my hand in the hole it did not fit. What should I do now? I needed rope, string I thought! I immediately
pulled my shoelaces off, I tied it together to make a long rope, and then I looped it just around the lenses. Slowly
I pulled and pulled, as if I was wheeling in a fish. Yes! It was in my reach. But it was stuck just in the hole. Now
what? I heaved and pulled it camera with all my skinny mighty strength. The camera landed on my chest as I
fell back. I exhaled, feeling very relieved, however loud crash alerted all my senses once more. The tower was
crumbling. Crumbling? How could it be? Suddenly, I remembered that red flash as I ran down the stairs. Oh!
What did I miss?
My mind raced through impossible solutions. For the whole day I relied on my luck, what if it ran out?
This time there would not be light or anything, how would I find my way back? There was a loud crash behind
me again. It is time to run! I wearily pushed myself straight, angled my head like a bull and charged. Again I ran
blindly through the watchtower, out of the blue I heard my mom and dad’s voice. I ran towards it, sprinting like
the wind. As I reached the exit, the light blinded me, but it was a heavenly feel. It seemed like I was trapped in
coldness so long, now that I feel the sun shining on my skin, my heart melted under the warmth. I hugged
parents d so tightly their faces was red, I choked down my tears, I would not cry. I showed them the pictures and
they called the police. Hopefully the face recognition application will be able to recognize that animal killer!
Once again, I was in my parent’s arms.
Next day, I was on the newspapers. The title was ‘Lucky Boy Catches Deer Killer’. This gave my
confidence a boost. Even though there were a few scratches on my arms and legs, I felt proud. Not only I visited
the Great Wall, I had a thrilling, unforgettable adventure. Well, at least I learnt a very serious lesson. From then
on, I saw the world differently. I was more observant and less reckless.
