The guards looked confused but they took the map. Once they were both looking at it, Ellie sneaked over
to the door. Just as she was opening the door, Ellie saw the guards running towards her.
“
Hey you, where you go?” They shouted as they grabbed Ellie’s arm.
“
No, My friend she was in there, I was trying to get her out!” Ellie shouted.
“
You wait her here!” One of them said. Ellie was mad but she did what she was told.
Meanwhile inside the tower, Karen was desperately trying to find the right hallway. She had already been
down two but she just found more guards. She tried the middle hallway and found a large room full of gold.
Which one is it?! She thought. She started picking up random statues. After half an hour of picking up statues
she finally found a beautiful golden statue that had some Chinese writing engraved on the bottom. ‘

it said, it means ‘belongs to the Forbidden City’. This must be the one! She thought. She stuffed it in her
backpack and quickly ran out of the room
Where is Karen!? Ellie thought desperately. And soon Karen burst out of the door and ran towards Ellie.
“
Ellie, are you okay?!” Karen exclaimed.
“
Why were you in there?! You’re getting arrested!” The guards shouted.
“
I, uh, was just trying to find the bathroom,” Karen said weakly.
“
Then why did it take half an hour? and how did you get in there, there is a code, how did you figure that
out?” The guards asked.
“
I uh, there was another entrance on the other side of the wall,” Karen said and smiled weakly.
“
You’re coming with me!”.
The guards grabbed the girls and took them through the tower and out the other side to a small police
station.
Once they had sat down on a couch, Karen whispered “I got it, its in my backpack”.
A police woman came into the room and started asking questions to Ellie and Karen.
“
Can you please leave the room, guards?” The policewoman asked in Chinese. They left, Ellie and Karen
knew this was when they should tell the real story. “What’s your story?” She asked.
“
Well, on the way to the great wall we saw the notice at the forbidden city that the statue was missing
and I found a note saying that it was hid in the tower, and Karen found it, but then the guards caught me and
brought us here,” Ellie explained.
“
So your saying that the guards are the ones that are behind this?” The policewoman asked.
“
No! I don’t think its them, we found a note in a box shop and its from a person called Professor Chao,”
Karen explained.
“
Oh, Professor Chao, He’s up to no good again, we’ve already arrested him at least three times!” The
policewoman explained, “Thank you for telling us, I will hopefully contact Professor Chao as soon as possible.”
“
Well thanks! We’re going to go now,” Ellie said getting up.
“
Good bye, Oh! and you might get a reward!” The policewoman said loudly.
“
Well I know what I’m going to do with that!” Ellie whispered.
A few days later, Karen ran into Ellie’s hotel flapping an envelope.
“
What’s that?!” Ellie asked Karen.
“
Its the reward!” Karen shouted.
“
Oh my gosh!” Ellie shrieked, “We have to donate to charity! You know there is a charity just around the
corner,”.
“
Do we really have to? I want a new phone!” Karen whined.
“
They have no parents and no food!” Ellie shouted.
“
I guess that’s a good point,” Karen said.
“
Lets go!” Ellie shouted.
That night, after the visit to the charity, Karen’s family and Ellie’s family had dinner at the hotel’s
restaurant.
“
I am so proud of you! I can’t believe you donated your reward to charity! ” Karen’s dad told Ellie and
Karen.
“
Yes, I think you deserve a treat! Waiter!” Ellie’s dad said, “Two ice cream cakes! For these two ladies
here,”.
“
I’ve heard of you two, you were the girls who found the statue, and you donated money to charity, that
was so nice of you!” The waiter said and smiled.
But Ellie knew, she didn’t need money or fame to achieve what she wanted, just help from your friends.
