The Outer Space’s Contribution on the Great
Wall

stared out of the window anxiously.
Let me introduce myself. I am Ziti from planet 213. I am going on a journey to explore this special
planet, Earth. It was discovered seven years ago. To find out more about this special planet, my boss sent
me and my two colleagues, Darla and Repo, to land on the planet.
I should, perhaps, briefly explain a bit about my background first. I live on planet 213. We call
ourselves 213ers. We have two tentacles on our head and eight limbs, four hands and four legs. On planet 213,
everyone will be granted a special power at birth. My special power is that I know all languages in the galaxy. I
know English and this explains why you could read what I’m writing. My friend, Darla, has special power too.
She can lift and move heavy things up with her eyes. Another friend, Repo, can change things into any shapes
he wants to. All three of us are space explorers. Our mission is to go on adventure to learn more about the world.
Now, back to the journey. Darla, Repo and I were on the spaceship. The system on the spaceship said that
we would arrive in an hour.
‘
Hey guys, what do you think we would find on Earth?’ asked Repo. He seemed to be very excited about
the journey.
I shrugged. ‘ I’ve got no idea. After all, it’s a totally different planet,’ I replied.
Suddenly, Darla pointed to a blue circular object in the distance. She was jumping up and down so
vigorously that our whole ship swayed. ‘Look! Planet Earth!’ she cried.
I rushed to the window. Wow, it was really Planet Earth! Planet Earth was so beautiful: it was a blue sphere
floating in the middle of the quiet universe. There were patches of green on it too. I watched with fascination as
the ship moved closer to the Earth.
‘
Come here guys! Look!’ exclaimed Repo. I looked at where he was pointing. In the middle of a green
patch, there was a yellowish thing. It formed elongated yellow line on the green patch. I was not really sure what
it was.
‘
Let’s land there,’ I said.
Our ship landed on the ‘elongated line’. It turned out to be a magnificent wall which was long and tall. The
wall was on a mountain range and there were some creatures below. They didn’t look anything like us. They
only had two arms and two legs. They were moving huge blocks up a mountain under the very hot sun. I could
feel the uncomfortable heat on my skin. I wondered what they were doing in such hot weather.
‘
Let me go and ask what they’re doing,’ I suggested. I was very curious.
‘
Wait! You’re going to scare them to death if you go like this,’ said Repo. With just one wave, he turned me
into an earthling, with two arms and legs.
So I set off to feed my curiosity and approached earthlings nearby. ‘Hi! What kind of creature are you?
What are you doing here?’ I asked politely.
The earthling was panting with sweat pouring down his forehead. ‘I’m of course a human being! As the
king commanded, we have to build this Great Wall. All of us have been working on this for a long time. I have
no idea why Emperor Qin would want to build anything like that. The job is killing us’ replied the earthling.
I was confused. ‘Huh? What did you say was the name of this? Why do you have to build this thing in such
hot weather?’ I asked.
‘
This is called the Great Wall of China. Emperor Qin, our king, said that this would protect us from
invaders. He said that the Great Wall would go up mountains, pass desserts and green lawns. The part of the
Great Wall which we had to build is nearly finished. I have to work now, or I would be punished by the soldiers.’
Then, she went away.
I went back to Repo and Darla and told them what I had seen and heard.
‘
This is unbelievable! The terrible dictator, Emperor Qin, is asking his people to build a wall in such a harsh
environment? This is inhumane!’ exclaimed Repo. ‘This alien dictator should be overthrown! We should help
these poor earthlings.’
‘
The earthlings called themselves “people”, ‘I corrected Repo. ‘By the way, how can we help them? I think
we should observe a little longer.’
So, Repo turned all three of us into ‘people’. We walked over to the construction site. A fierce-looking
person came to us and told us to start working right away. I thought he must be one of the soldiers whom the
