I glanced at the grey and black bricks around me, wondering what I should do so that videos would
start playing again. Among the grey and black bricks, I saw a beautiful clear white brick. It really stood out from
the other ones. I touched the small brick and images started to form once again.
The snowy wind blew from all directions, and snow started to fall right there in the middle of summer.
I was very surprised and was wondering what was happening when a whirl of snow started to circle me. Before
I knew it, I was standing next to a little boy bundled up in thick and heavy clothes. He was holding a long
container which must be filled with delicious soup since I could smell the delicious fragrance. The little boy
who must be around twelve pulled out a piece of letter that read:
Dear Mrs. Chen,
I send my deep regrets, but I’m afraid your husband is deadly sick. He is going to die soon mainly
because of exhaustion and lack of food. I advise you or someone in the family to visit him to say your last words.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. Ho
Tears welled up in the little boy’s eyes as he continued his hard journey.
When the little boy finally arrived at a hut on the top of a mountain, he sighed a deep sigh of relief.
Opening the door to the hut, he stepped in. Inside the hut, it was warm and cozy compared to the cold weather
outside. However, I could feel the presence of sickness and unhappiness in the room. On a bed in the corner of
the room, laid a forty-year-old man who had a huge mass of black and grey hair. His eyes were full of pain, but
lit up when he saw his little son. They hugged and the little boy fed his father some soup before the father
finally leaned back, laid on the bed once again and closed his eyes. The little boy cried out,
Ba Ba!(Father)”
He sobbed and pulled his dead father to him as if to wake him up, but his father was gone. I pulled the
little boy to me, trying to comfort him, but he couldn’t feel my presence. I was just a spirit in the future…
The sobbing and crying slowly faded away and it stopped snowing abruptly, leaving me feeling sad
and emotional even though the strong Sun warmed me up. This short clip seemed to teach me that we have to
appreciate those that are around us now. We shouldn’t take them for granted because they might leave us any
moment. We should enjoy the moments we have with them now. Don’t regret only when they’re gone.
The sun shone on me, leaving me both warm physically and in heart. The Great Wall have taught me
that we should appreciate the things around us, and of how there was so much sorrow building the Great Wall.
The workers suffered a great deal and even dedicated their lives for it. They have spent so much effort onto this
so that their descendants would be protected from invasion. The Great Wall has imprinted its memory in my
heart.
