horrifying sight and Baiyou tripped, his ladder swayed and eventually gave way, Baiyou luckily managed to get
on the other side just before it crashed and took no damage, but he knew himself he was seconds away from
death. However, the threat was not over, his ladder had made a loose brick fall and another followed. Soon it
was beginning to look like raining- the bricks were falling “cats and dogs”. Baiyou looked up and shouted,
Holy cow, oh god. DANGER! Everyone move!” The whole section of the wall was crumbling, chaos broke out
under the Wall. Men were running around, bricks were falling. One very unfortunate man was trapped under a
pile of bricks. Baiyou rushed into the debris and began helping the man push the bricks away. The man grabbed
Baiyou’s arm, “Please, I can’t hold on longer, I know I won’t make it but please tell my family that I love them
very much. They live at Hangtou 5 miles east from here. Please, promise me.” Tears were in Baiyou’s eyes. He
was state of shock. “Please promise me, my time is short, please.” Baiyou managed to utter a single word, “Yes
I promise.” And after that word, the life left the man’s eyes. Baiyou looked around, many had the same fate as
the man in front of him, it was a cemetery.
Two days later, work had begun again; a single disaster could not stop the project. Suddenly, someone
shouted out, “TO ARMS, MONGOLS INBOUND!” Panic rose through Baiyou, this was the first time Mongols
had appeared and being part of the renovation team meant that he was also the King’s first line of defense.
Might as well say they were militia. Under the Wall, turmoil broke out, man were passing each other swords and
shields and bows and arrows. The King had obviously anticipated that the Mongols might attack. Attacking his
own race was not what Baiyou had in mind but he did not have a choice. The section, which fell down two days
ago, had not been fixed and in the distance you could see the distant cloud of dust rising from the mountains. It
was Mongol Calvary Archers, the Mongol’s elite task force. Their plan was to pour oil on to the Mongols when
they were underneath the wall and set them alight, however it did not go as successfully as it should. The oil
only hit the grass but not the Mongols. Men saw the twist of events and started retreating. Baiyou was not going
to retreat, not to these barbarians. He started hammering the walls to make them fall like two days ago. A brick
fell. The Mongols were starting to enter the section, which fell. A second brick fell. And after a few more strong
hard blows, the whole wall fell down, crushing some unfortunate Chinese and all the Barbarians. They had won,
but also made a year of hard work lost. This was Baiyou, the “Wallbreaker”.
Baiyou’s work was never recognized by the King, for the commander had executed him for destroying
the Wall.
