She felt her throat go dry, her eyes started to tear up, but she kept smiling. That night they decided to leave the
two last mooncake slices. ‘A slice for every loss.’, her father said to her in a comforting voice.”
The Story Teller paused this time with no interruptions. As she continued the story her eyes lit up, they
were dark, dark brown, almost black and very beautiful.
As she lay in her bed, listening to the breeze blow over the dry grass, she looked out. Outside a blue and
pink and yellow sunset blazed across the sky. It was the most beautiful sunset she had seen since Liang Fanqi’s
proposal. She sat gazing at the sunset for a long time, but when the sun had set and there was no longer a light in
the sky. She felt her heart beat so hard it was pounding out her chest, she found it hard to breath. Her head was
buzzing with memories. A sudden stiffness filled her, something crazy took over her body. She did not feel her
legs as they made their way to the water, she could not feel her knees bend before she jumped off the high peak
bowing over the water. As her feet broke the perfect flawless, untouched water’s surface, she awoke from her
daze, from her madness. She saw the water that surrounded her. She tried her best to swim, but she could not.
She felt the weight of her clothes pull her down. She felt her body sink. She gasped for air and only drew in
water. She saw nothing but the deep blue...”
Wait what? That’s not a good ending, she could stare into the sunset and.. and.. and something magical
could happen.” Daisy spluttered, something about the ending had caught her attention. Now she wanted to hear
the ending, a real ending. She scowled at the storyteller.
We all wish that we could change endings, but we can’t.” The storyteller uttered as a tear ran down her
wrinkled cheek. Casey pulled on Daisy’s arm. She really wanted to leave, but Daisy wouldn’t move. The
storyteller wiped the tear from her wrinkled face, but remained silent. Daisy’s shoulders sagged in defeat and
she turned to leave. She was going to steal one more glance at the storyteller before she left. She was not there
anymore.
Daisy looked up as a tourist read a leaflet aloud to the crowd:
And till this day, Meng Jiang Nü can be seen gliding over Qing Hai Huevery every special sunset...”
Daisy gazed out the window at a blue and pink and yellow sunset.
