Dragons of the Great Wall

long time ago there was a lovely sprite called Cherry. She had black hair which was always tied in a
high ponytail and she wore a blue Chinese dress and red boots. One summer day, Cherry went out to
pick flowers in the Crystal Garden (a garden near where the sprites lived peacefully in China) for her
best friend, Alyssa. She heard a strange noise. She looked up at the cloudless sky. Maybe there was a
storm coming.

Cherry hurried to Alyssa’s neat little mushroom house and flew up the stairs to Alyssa’s bedroom.
“
Hi, Cherry! Are those flowers for me?” Alyssa looked up. She had blonde hair which was always tied in
two ponytails.
“
Yeah, the flowers are for you.” said Cherry. Then she heard the growling noise again.
Alyssa said, “I think there might be a big storm coming. Did you hear that noise?”
“
I think so too.” Cherry said.
A few hours later, when Cherry was at home, a storm really came, but it wasn’t a big storm, like Alyssa and
Cherry expected. Cherry heard a big noise coming from the direction of Alyssa’s house. “Oh no!” she shouted.
Alyssa’s house was being destroyed by a dragon!
Cherry flew over to Alyssa’s house and used magic to try and destroy the dragon. She picked up some wood
and threw it at the dragon. The wood landed in his eye. The dragon, who was now half blind, became as helpless
as a baby. Cherry used one last magic spell to hit the dragon. Then she started to kick and punch the dragon.
Finally, after lots of hitting, kicking and punching it gave up and flew away.
Alyssa wasn’t badly hurt and Cherry only had a few scratches, but apart from that, they were all okay.
“
Phew!” Alyssa said, standing up and brushing off the dust from her purple Chinese dress.
“
That was really scary!” Cherry agreed. “Look, what's this?” Alyssa said, pointing to a corner of the
destroyed house. It was a piece of very old parchment! They walked closer to the piece of old parchment. “Let's
see what it says…”
“
Oh no, it’s written in Chinese!” Cherry said, dismayed. Though the sprites lived in China, very few of
them knew how to read or write Chinese.
“
Hey, guys, you forgot I know how to read Chinese?” Alyssa said. “Here, this is what it says.”
Dear Diary,
Today my dad told me a story from before he became the emperor. He told me about a young person
building a Great Wall. My dad wants to rule all the cities in China, so he thinks that this Great Wall would be a
really good invention to rule the whole China. I think it’s a good idea.
Goodbye for now!

The piece of parchment ended there. Alyssa flipped the parchment over. There were words on the other side
too! She started to read:
Dear Diary,
My dad‘s asking me to write down the Great Wall plan in my diary. He says the enemies won’t get the plan
because they won’t think of looking in my diary! Here are some
The diary entry ended there, right in the middle of the plans for the Great Wall! Cherry began, “Well…”
When they all heard an ear-piercing scream, they looked around and saw Ivy, one of Crystal and Alyssa’s
friends at school, being attacked by a dragon!
“
Oh no!” everyone shouted. They exchanged a look and flew over to help Ivy.
Ten minutes after they rescued Ivy, more and more friends got attacked by dragons. “Oh no, what exactly
are we going to do about this?” Ivy, who had now recovered, exclaimed. She knew about the diary now.
‘
Only if there is a big wall to stop the dragons from stomping into the Garden…’ Cherry thoughtfully
wondered out loud.
“
That’s it! Cherry, you’re a genius!” Alyssa shouted.
“
Huh?” Cherry was baffled.
“
Isn't it clear enough? We can use the plans in the diary to build a Great Wall to protect us!” Ivy said.
“
But we have to find the missing pages.” Alyssa said.
As Cherry, Alyssa and Ivy were heading off to find the diary pages, there was a blinding flash. Words
