The Mystery of the Great Wall

here was eerie silence in the village road as the five, Mystery Solvers walked along the side walk to the
main control room of the Great Wall, with pattering feet following the four children. Buttons (Jack’s
dog) was being as quiet as a wall, not even the sound of panting was heard from him, Buttons has gone
through a lot of mystery solving as the children did, each and every time, they got ahead of the cops
that was in charge of these cases and was a great helping hand to the Chief Inspector police, but was an
enemy to the police that was in a lower level called Rover.

When they arrived near the gates, they could hear two voices whispering to each other.
’
Are you ready, Max?’
‘
Not quite, still needs a bit more oiling on the tractor’
‘
How about the bomb?’
‘
Yep, it’s all set.’
There was a third quivering voice from behind the two.
‘
Don’t you think it’s quite cruel to do this my dear? In the olden times people would always need to listen
to the King no matter what and do what they say correctly, no arguing or you will be put in jail or even worse
with having your head off. So the King ordered all of the men to build a 21,196 km long wall to protect the
Chinese Empire or incursions by forces. So the men had to go on trips and carry stones, tamped earth and other
materials so they could put up the wall as the Chinese empire have requested. So in the end, lots of people died
from this hard work but the King still insisted to have this wall built to protect his palace from intruders, so they
continued to build this Great Wall and they finished what the King requested perfectly. It was finished in 220
BC. After all the hard work of the men, are you really sure you want to do this?’
‘
Of course, Mother! Do you think I’m silly? I know what I’m doing and this is just to get the treasure from
underneath and earn money!’
The five Mystery Solvers pushed open the gate and went inside. They suddenly heard some footsteps
heading over to them, they rushed over the side to hide in the shadows, but Chloe wasn’t careful enough and
tripped over a loose rock, they were just about to be caught when the third voice screamed ‘Help! Let me out of
here!’ followed by a thud on the top floor. Jane and Chloe rushed up the steps and entered the room they thought
the voice had come from. They saw a treasure box in there and opened it up, there was a woman in a black hood
that clambered out of the chest quickly. Meanwhile, Jack and Ryan looked through part of the rooms and
discovered the black hood that the culprit was wearing when the photographer captured the picture.
‘
Oh’ gasped Ryan ‘Could you believe that the culprit and his plans are just a few feet away?’ hissed Jack.
They discovered the main plan of action made today, it seemed simple to them, but actually there was a
surprising happening waiting for them. It seems like they just made an underground tunnel to the middle of the
Great Wall and planned to explode the whole, adding that there were two fierce dogs on guard of the entrance so
that only the owners can get through without getting peeled to pieces. At least that was what the note on the
desk said, but Jack and Ryan was sure there must be more to that.
Later the girls and Jack, Ryan met in the hallways leading to the underground tunnel.
‘
Have you found anything?’ asked the girls.
Jack explained about the note in the basement. They hurried around the hallways finding a secret door that
could be an entrance to the
secret
tunnel.
As they were about to give up, Jack exclaimed ‘Why have we been so silly, we only pressed against walls,
we should look up and above!’
The three of them murmured an agreement, with an agreeing nod from Buttons. All of them scrambled to
get chairs to climb on to, but maybe they have been too noisy, because all of a sudden there were heavy foot-
steps coming towards them, that person was making a sound ’Whoooooooooooh ahhhhhhh this place is haunted,
better get out.’ It boomed.
There was some sort of mechanical noise about this voice, Jack quickly peeked out of his hiding place and
only saw a robot outside the door running in circles.
Everyone let out a sigh of relief, they quickly got back to work, soon, Chloe gasped ’Ooooh it’s here, I
found it!’ The four other Mystery Solvers hustled around Chloe, she certainly has found a trap door in the
ceiling!
They all agreed that Jack should be the one to go up first and have a check, since they were their group
leader. He climbed up the steps leading to the passageway, ‘It’s okay up here.’ Jack said.
One by one, they climbed up the flight of steps and entered a cave room.
