They began to go home as it grew dark, however the mother felt like something was missing. She
ked her bag for all her things. Her phone wasn’t missing. Her keys weren’t missing. Her wallet
n’t missing either. “Nothing in my bag is missing” she thought. “But why do I always feel that
ething is missing?
When she arrived home she kept on thinking (and thinking) about what was missing. It wasn’t until the
evening when she finally figured it out. “One of my sons is missing!” she shrieked.
O
She grabbed the phone and dialed for the police immediately. Almost at once, the police arrived. “Please
find my son!” she said as she cried. The police asked her some questions about her son and left declaring, “We
will find your son, we promise”.
The next day, the mother got up very early. She put on her clothes and rushed to the great wall. When she
arrived, she saw the rescue crew. They were still searching for the missing boy. When the mother tried to enter,
the guard blocked her, “You must not enter otherwise you will disturb the rescue crew from searching,” but the
mother would not listen. “Let me in! Let me in! I need to find my son!” She tried to punch and kick the guard.
She even began to bite him. So after the guards arm had acquired a number of tooth marks she was finally
allowed in.
As she entered, she saw hundreds of rescue crew scrambling around searching like a bunch of ants finding
breakfast. She walked around the rescue area and watched the rescue crew. It didn’t take long before she had
bumped into a guy. He was the commander of the rescue team. Before he had a chance to speak, the mother
shouted, “Have you found my son? Tell me! Tell me, tell me now!”. “Um…,” the commander replied, “…no”.
The Mother went crazy. She jumped up and down and her face turned red. After a few minutes, she finally
calmed down. She said three words, “What has happened?” in a low, angry tone but the commander would not
let on. “I can’t say yet, besides, you…..” The mother pointed to the guard at the gate, rubbing medicine onto the
teeth marks on his arms. “Well?” she glared. The commander had nothing to say. He turned and beckoned the
mother to go with him. He led the mother to a helicopter and said, “Get in.”
The mother got in and waited. Eventually the helicopter took off. Suddenly, the helicopter wobbled fiercely
and the pilot took it down. A box of flares behind her tipped over in the decent, and one of them fell into her
pocket.
The helicopter landed on a part of the wall far, far away. The mother ran out and shouted her son’s name
desperately but he was nowhere to be found. The search continued well into the night.
As morning came, the commander shouted, “Clear the site!” His team went back to their base. As the team
slowly dispersed, taking their equipment with them the commander suddenly realized something. ‘Where was
the child’s mother?’ he thought. The mother was not amongst his team. He grabbed a loud speaker and yelled,
“
Emergency! Two people are now missing! God, we must find them!” The rescue crew rushed back to the site.
Meanwhile, the mother was still searching, further out along the wall.. She held a torch and kept on
shouting her son’s name. She had been walking for hours at this point and had become very tired. Gently
plodding along she caught her foot on a peculiarly placed piece of stone.” Ruuuum….” the sound came and she
had barely enough time to think ‘What was that noise?’ before the ground cracked open and she fell into a deep,
dark whole.
When she awoke, she found herself in a strange passage. There were fire torches on the walls. Green moss
was covering the steps. “Yuck!” she thought, as she wiped her slimy hand in her jacket. She looked around to
see if there was any thing that might help her to get out but all around nothing, nothing, except for a faint sound
coming from one end of the tunnel. She decided to walk towards it and as she came nearer the noise became
clearer and clearer. She would have recognized that voice anywhere and began to run.
At the bottom of a small staircase, she finally found her son. “I have you! Thank God!” she said beaming.
“
Mum, I have found some treasure but it’s too heavy for me to carry, that’s why I have stayed down here” he
explained as he pulled out the chest “I just didn’t want us to lose it and have to continue being poor. “Wow”, she
exclaimed. However her happiness was short lived as moments later the entrance of the passage closed in. Her
laughter became tears.
“
No!” she shouted, “We are doomed!” She began jumping up and down again in anger and the flare
dropped out from her pocket and lit. The smoke poured out and the mother and son knew that it wouldn’t be
long before they choked to death. They started to cough and splutter, as the last breath of oxygen left their lungs.
They felt dizzy. The pain in their throats went away. It went dark.
