New tales of the Great Wall
Long Suen, Group 2: Fiction, Quarry Bay School
here was once a King of China. He loved jewelry. The only result was war. War happened all over
China, because of the King’s greed. There was an isolated part of East China, called Haiju. Haiju was
often attacked or robbed by the King of China’s men as their jewelry was magnificent. The people of
Haiju named the King of China “Evil Terror”. There was one hope for Haiju, to find a strong general
that would aid Haiju to get their revenge.
There was a little boy in a small, congested village in the south of Haiju. He was called Ruqin. His
father died in a raid caused by the King of China. His mum died of a serious disease. When he was fifteen years
old, he could carry huge blocks that normal men couldn’t. In fact, he could carry four at once. The Lord of Haiju,
Qiao Li, heard that this boy was strong. Therefore, Qiao Li gave Ruqin a Sword of Light and the Shield of
Strength with the Armor of Glory. The proud Ruqin practiced every afternoon, hammering down thick trees.
Sometimes, he even forgot to eat his dinner.
T
The King of Haiju, Qia Li, entitled Ruqin as The Warrior of Light as Ruqin’s skills with a combination
with a sword and shield were completely extreme. Nobody in the country was believed to take on this warrior
except for China’s evil lord, JiaoHu. Jiao Hu, also known as The Dark Warrior, led many country battles and
won all of them. It was time to let the two best warriors compete and see who was the rightful Warriack. The
Warriack is a warrior that is the fiercest and the most powerful all over China.
When Ruqin was twenty-seven years old, he married an enchanting woman, called Wang Zhu. She was as
elegant as possible, she also wore a special bracelet, believed it was a symbol of peace. She knew that one-day,
Ruqin would go out to fight against the most feared warrior, and knew that Ruqin would likely die. She begged
him and begged,
“
Please don’t go and fight! Everyone knows that Jiao Hu is a powerfully built warrior!”
It’s my only choice. The more years Jiao Hu is feared, the more powerful he gets, the more power darkness
gets than light. I have to stop him, or die trying.” Ruqin sighed and stood up, and strode out of the door. He
picked up his deadly weapons that lay on the golden beach. He watched the peaceful scenery. Shimmering blue
waves lapped against the golden sand. Green palm trees swayed through the soft breeze. The cascading sun
shone its last glimpse of China before sinking down into the blue waves. The clouds were purple just before
evening. Ruqin walked to the kingdom. He opened the grand door swiftly, and saw four generals discussing the
attack on China. One of the generals greeted Ruqin and discussed how to attack the overpowering country.
The plan was simple, everybody expected Jiao Hu to defend the attack. Ruqin, Haiju’s preeminent hope,
would duel with Jiao Hu whilst the Haiju soldiers, with curved swords and shields would attack on the main
front. Spearmen, with deadly spears would attack along the flank. Consummate archers would be advancing
from the back firing rapid shots but would try to avoid slamming arrows into their own men. Haiju expected the
Chinese soldiers to build up a sluggish defense position along the Great Wall. There would be ten powerful
cannons that could take down the Great Wall and also squeeze the life out of the Chinese soldiers.
That night, Ruqin advanced with his troops to the Great Wall. The troops all got into their positions and,
“
Attack!” Ruqin’s shout echoed through the silent sky. The warfare was beginning. The huge ram brought down
the massive doors. Chinese soldiers tried to defend the country, but all of them fell before Ruqin’s blade. Haiju’s
soldiers poured into confused China, destroying special decorations as they went. Jiao Hu stepped into the street
with a herd of angry soldiers. Meanwhile, the Chinese defenders of the Great Wall got squeezed under the heavy
weight of the crumbling Wall. The Great Wall was down. Archers and Haiju soldiers battled out the Chinese
soldiers through the dusty street. Ruqin unsheathed his sword, rose up his shield, and advanced to the shocked
evil lord. Jiao Hu snarled, “Time to die, whoever you are!” And they fought. Ruqin hammered a series of
lightning-fast overhead strikes, which Jiao Hu fumbled and then staggered under the impact. Jiao Hu was about
to slice Ruqin’s hip off, when Ruqin stabbed his blade through Jiao Hu’s armor and punctured his already
bleeding skin.
The King of China was given the death penalty back in Haiju as the War of the Great Wall ended. Haiju
was victorious.
