extremely happy. He held the baby dragon in his arms and said softly, “From now on, your name is Great. I’m
your first friend in this world.”
Chapter 2 - Days in the Forest
Great and Wall grew up together. They helped each other. Great taught Wall how to practice Kungfu and
do exercise. Wall taught Great how to flap his arms so that he could fly, and how to blow wind from his mouth
so that he could breathe out fire. When they became hungry, they went fishing near a lake in the forest. They
were often lucky enough to have a full bucket of fish. But they did not eat the fish right away. Instead, before
kicking start eating, they always played a game called “Treasure to Eat”.
Instructions:
One of them would be the hider, while the other one would be the seeker.
First, the hider hid a fish in the forest.
The place where it was hid would be indicated by some letters not in order.
Then, the finder needed to rearrange the order of the letters to guess the place and find it.
If the finder did not get it right, the hider could get the fish.
If the finder could find the fish, he could get the fish.
Sometimes, Great won and he gobbled up the raw fish quickly. Other times when Wall won, Great cooked
the fish by blowing fire from his mouth. Wall enjoyed the taste of the fish cooked by his nice friend. There
were also some silly moments when Great could not find the fish but even Wall himself could not remember
where he hid it, so both of them had nothing to eat. Together, they had spent many memorable days.
Chapter 3 – The Frontline Fighters
As Wall grew up, China was facing more and more attacks from invaders at the borders. At the age of
eighteen, Wall wanted very much to contribute himself for the country, so he enrolled himself in the army. On
the night before Wall went to the battlefield, Great had a long talk with him. Great gave Wall a lot of
encouragement and bid farewell to him.
The next day, Wall left Great silently while he was sleeping. But Wall did not know Great was secretly
following him behind. On the battlefield, Wall’s side and the invaders’ side fought fiercely. Blood was shed all
over the land. At a critical moment when Wall’s side was about to lose, Great flew to the frontline and defeated
the enemies. Wall’s side won a great victory. The King of China and Wall’s fellow soldiers thanked Great
sincerely. From then on, whenever China was facing invaders, Great played an important role in each battle.
As years passed, Wall and Great became leaders in many battles and came back with triumph. The King of
China promoted Wall to the post of General and China had been peaceful for a long time.
Chapter 4 – The Great Wall
After many peaceful years, the invaders around the borders of China joined together to form a powerful ally.
Though both Great and Wall were at their advanced age, they were brave enough to face this big challenge.
Under the leadership of Great and Wall, their army chased the enemies to the borders. As they advanced more,
the enemies retreated more. At last, the invaders’ ally lost the battle. Though Great and Wall won a beautiful
battle again, they have exhausted almost all of their energy and their bodies were injured severely. On the night
of their return, both Great and Wall were bleeding a lot. Wall looked up at the starry night and muttered, “My
dear Great, I know my time is nearly over. Could you give me a last ride on your back at this beautiful night?”
Great was tearful and let Wall climb on its back. They flew beyond the rooftops, up to the mountains and onto
the clouds. As they flew past the stars, memories of their childhood in the forest flashed across their eyes. At
