Adventures Deep Inside the Great Wall

n an ordinary town up in the hills next to the Great Wall of China stood an extremely dull
orphanage. There lived a pair of twins with the most wonderful names, they were Chao Xing
meaning morning star and Chenguag meaning morning light. There was not even one occasion
when they were not together, they stuck to each other like magnets. They were adopted very
quickly but they were too young to figure out what was happening, Chao Xing was adopted by a
farming family who lived in a simple cottage and Chenguag went to a wealthy family who lived in the
city with a great mansion and 7 brothers and sisters. Chao Xing had a wonderful life farming,
Chenguag, however did not like her home so she ran away with only the money she had saved from her
weekly allowance to keep her going. Chenguag walked aimlessly until she found herself in the Great
Wall of China where she found some very extraordinary friends and started a new life.

Chao Xing grew up strong and healthy and went to school like any other child. One day she was
playing in the attic when she found her foster mother's diary, inside there was half a photo. Chao Xing
loved a mystery so she slipped the torn photo into her pocket and carried it around with her. She
wondered could there be another person on the missing half.
One day at school Chao Xing's teacher announced that they were going hiking at the Great Wall of
China. They walked for what seemed like ages and as soon as no one was looking Chao Xing slipped
away determined to find an adventure. Nobody noticed she was missing. Chao Xing found herself in a
maze with arched roofs, winding tunnels and flaming torches, “Wow, I guess these maps of the great
wall do come in handy”she said to herself. She looked at the map she had been given by her teacher.
“
I've gone right off the page!” she exclaimed. She walked around expecting something amazing to
happen but nothing happened. Then something touched her, it felt like an ant or another small creature.
She reached for her magnifying glass and caught one in her hand and looked at it. Chao Xing was
paralyzed with astonishment, finally she came to her senses and took another look at the object in her
hand. It was the most detailed and fancy dragon-like creature she'd ever seen. “This school trip is
turning out to be so much fun” she said and she punched her hand in the air. She walked along a narrow
pathway, each step she took more excitement built up inside her, “nobody knows this exists, nobody
knows about these dragons, nobody knows I am here.” That reminded her. Chao Xing's teacher had no
idea where she was. “Well I mean you don't get an adventure every day so I must just have to go on”
she thought, She followed the little lights on the dragon's head to see where they would lead her. It was
a long time before they stopped, she was so tired that she leaned back against a rocky wall and fell
asleep. When she woke up she found herself in a semi circle room with one big throne and a million
little deck chairs. A figure just as tall as Chao Xing walked into the room and sat on the chair, a few
seconds later one dragon in a cape and crown came in followed by hundreds or even thousands more.
Every little deck chair was filled. Chao Xing scanned the room carefully, her eyes getting wider and
wider, in the corner of her eye she saw half a picture and felt curious. She went to check it out. “What
is your name and what do you want” said the girl sitting on the throne with a very stern accent. “I just
want a closer look at your photo.” “No certainly not” said the girl, but Chao Xing was too quick, she
got the photo from her mum's diary and placed it with the other. Chao Xing was speechless, the room
descended into silence, everyone was thinking their own curious thoughts. “Excuse me your majesty
but we have some visitors at the door” said one of the many dragons. Chao Xing saw her teacher, her
face as white as paper. “What are you doing here”? she motioned to her teacher. “Trying to find you”,
the teacher motioned back. Then Chao Xing and her teacher both put their hands to their heads and
muttered “uh oh”. Chao Xing ran to the throne and said very quietly, “Remember back at the
orphanage where we sat together and one woman picked you and another picked me, we were twins but
got separated” she paused. “I had better have a word with my teacher over there before she thinks I
have gone out of my mind.” “Sure” said Chenguag, nearly in tears. “This is great” Chao Xing screamed
maybe too loud because all of the dragons put their hands to their ears!
Chenguag explained to Chao Xing that after she ran away from her adopted family, she wandered
aimlessly until she eventually found an inner chamber of the Great Wall. She made many friends
amongst the little creatures that lived there and they soon discovered that she had a talent for solving
mysteries and they crowned her their queen.
Just then a familiar beep noise came from Chenguag's pocket. She took out a special electronic
