Summer break was coming up at Oxford and students were madly chatting about their
s for summer. The five girls though, had the perfect plan for summer.
Few months ago, Oxford had a programme with an academy in China. The girls had
made friends with a nice girl called Kara. Kara had spent weeks with the NJPRL Girls and had made
them promise to visit her soon.
O
So they packed up. At last the bell rang and there was a mad rush at the gates. The girls said
goodbye to their friends and left.
They went from a flight to Guangzhou and took a superfast bullet train to Beijing. There at the
airport, they met Kara.
There was so much excitement that Kara was overjoyed.
After they had a snack, they went to their hotel suite. The five exhausted girls fell on the couch at
once. Kara laughed. “Well, sleepyheads!” Then suddenly she got a phone call from one of her cousin.
“
Uh.... I see… I’ll meet you tomorrow.” Kara turned to the girls, looking curious. “What happened?”
asked Jo glancing at Kara’s face. “Oh we just have to go meet my cousin tomorrow. I don’t know why.
He says it’s a mystery!” Kara explained.
The next day, the girls set out to visit a famous marketplace which was on sale in the
neighbourhood.
Then Kara remembered…her cousin was waiting for her! “Hurry girls! Let’s go meet my cousin,
he’s here!” Kara shouted. The girls hurried behind Kara. She ran to a tall boy. “Oh, Kim!” Kara
shouted throwing her hands around him. “Good to see you again!” Then looking at the NJPRL Girls
she cried “This is my cousin,
Kim!” Kim gave them a friendly smile.
Then they returned, they immediately fell asleep in the beds. Kara went in the kitchen for a
drink. As she sipped, she thought about the mystery that Kim mentioned. Kara was just dying to find
out so she woke her friends quickly.
“
Do you have to wake us up so early on holiday?” Paulina moaned. “Yeah some people need
more sleep here!” Jo agreed. Kara tried to explain. “NO guys we have some unfinished business! We
just absolutely HAVE to find out about the mystery Kim was talking about.” “Oh yeah let’s go now!”
Lily suggested.
They all went to Kim’s room where he was apparently wide awake and ready to begin! “Well fine.
I’ll tell you. Here it goes!”
“
Long ago my great-great-great-great grandfather, Juan, had a precious treasure.” Kim began. “It
was called the Jade of Truth because if anyone looked in it, the Jade would reflect truth into them and
they’d know their true self! There king who ruled the same town in which Juan lived. He had a
daughter who was turning 10 and he wanted to give her a necklace of jade stones. So he asked people
to find perfect jade stones and bring it to him. Then the king announced that he needed a perfect jade in
the middle. But no person in the town could find the
perfect
jade stone. Then Juan visited the King
with the Jade of Truth. The king loved the jade. But that night, someone sneaked in the palace and stole
the necklace. The king was in terrible disappointment. Then someone found the necklace near the Great
Wall! But the Jade of Truth was missing! And from that day on, people still talked about the stolen
Jade and where it was. People figured out that the thief had hidden the Jade in a place near The Great
Wall of China! That’s where it probably is.” Kim finished.
The six friends were mystified. “Well, it’d be really cool if we found the jade!” Nicky suggested.
Everyone agreed. “But you have to be careful. The most famous outlaw in China, that’s Madam Hu
(
tiger). She’s been searching for it for the past 3 years. She has spies everywhere.” Kim warned. So
they all packed up and left for the Great Wall.
When they all reached, they took a cable car to the start of the Great Wall. The girls and Kim were
so busy talking about the jade; they didn’t notice spies watching them. Madam Hu’s spies had been
watching them since they left the hotel.
